Chip Basket Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Purple 2 7/8″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
- Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need SEVEN (7) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
- Orange: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 6″ square, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Orange 3 1/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need SEVEN (7) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 6″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the Orange 3 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ x 7 3/4″ rectangles. (ONE (1) of these is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) of these is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (ONE (1) of these triangles will be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) of these triangles will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Orange 3 1/4″ squares & it’ll also be flanked by the results of the Purple 2 7/8″ squares.)
