For St. Patrick’s Day: Irish Puzzle Quilt Block

Irish Puzzle Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Irish Puzzle Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Dk. Green 7 1/4″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Dk. Green 3 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Dk. Green 7 1/4″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Dk. Green 3 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2 5/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Dk. Green 7 1/4″ squares. Then they’ll be flanked by the results of the Green 4 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the Dk. Green 7 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
