Flashback Tuesday: Big Block Log Cabin Quilt from BOMquilts.com & Quilt Therapy

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 17, 2015 by TK HarrisonMarch 16, 2015

I *love* making log cabin quilt blocks and quilts.  No matter how ‘advanced’ my quilting capabilities are, I never outgrow my love of creating a log cabin quilt.  I even made my wedding quilt a log cabin quilt!

These blocks are so versatile that they can encompass any type of quilt genre – from the very traditional to the modern, and everything in-between.  It’s a quilter’s delight!

It’s Another Giveaway Monday!

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 16, 2015 by TK HarrisonApril 5, 2015

Quilt Therapy’s March giveaway comes to us from one of my most favorite online quilt shops ever – AbbiMays.com!  Here’s what Linda is giving away to one lucky Quilt Therapy winner this month:

CornerPop-AbbiMays

The Corner POPâ„¢ Template from Studio 180 – 9 1/2″ Square Design Ruler

Finally, a tool and technique that will give you high success adding fabric corners to basic shapes. For years we’ve been layering small squares on big squares, marking & stitching on a diagonal line, then hoping everything lines up when we fold the small corner section back into place. If you’ve tried it, you know the pitfalls: too big, too short, too crooked and way too wasteful. No more. With your new Corner Popâ„¢ tool, you will be able to trim rather than mark, add an over-sized replacement triangle and then square everything to a perfect size. In 22 different sizes – whole, half and quarter inches. Increased success without undue stress for every level of quilter. What’s not to love!

Details

  •  Item # DT16
  • Ruler Size – approx. 9 1/2″ x 9 1/2″
  • Sizes available on tool – 22 options from 3/4″ finished corners to 6″ finished corners in quarter inch increments
  • Step by step illustrated instructions
  • Instructions for left hand cutting and trimming
  • Fine lines for higher accuracy

Here are the rules for this amazing giveaway:

  1. Comment on this blog post with just ONE WORD of how the ruler may change your quilting,
  2. Sign up for BOMquilts.com’s eNewsletter (if you’ve already subscribed, no need to do it again!) and confirm your subscription,
  3. The giveaway starts immediately and ends on April 8, 2015 at 11:59 pm CST,
  4. Only US mailing addresses accepted for entries,
  5. Anyone who comments more than once will be disqualified.

Ready, set, GO!!!

Quilting for Charity Spotlight: Lutheran World Relief

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 12, 2015 by TK HarrisonMarch 2, 2015

One of the charity’s that I personally support is Lutheran World Relief (LWR).  There are a dozen or so wonderful women at our church who do the hard work of tying and binding the quilt tops that many members make throughout the year.  My small contribution is SO worth it, to me!  I make a quilt for whatever reason (magazine submission, gift, etc.) and then I take the time to make a LWR quilt top.  They are SO simple to make and I always have time to put one or two together while I am waiting for my other quilt tops returning from my longarmer.

Here’s a note from the LWR website:

“When you make and send a Quilt, you are not only comforting someone you have never met, but providing an object that is useful in ways you probably never imagined. The ultimate purpose of a Quilt is to provide warmth, an essential need for people in every climate, and LWR tries to ensure top standards in fabrics and filler accordingly.”

Here’s a fun video about these LWR quilts – just remember, you don’t have to be Lutheran to make quilts for LWR.

I hope you find this LWR charity as worthwhile as I do!
