My Stash Rabbits

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 14, 2015 by TK HarrisonMay 10, 2015

Ahem.  I have decided that my quilt fabric stash is multiplying like little rabbits.  It just keeps growing and growing, almost outgrowing the space I have for it!  I love to look at such beautiful eye candy, stroke the fabrics, make plans for the fabric and just know that if I need to start a new quilt, I (hopefully) have just the right fabrics for the job.

My ultimate goal is to have enough stash yardage that I can separate it into colors.  A lot more stash yardage is required for that to happen…but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy what I have right in front of me!

Keeping Traditional Quilting Alive

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 13, 2015 by TK HarrisonMay 10, 2015

With the big emergence of the modern quilt movement comes the plea from some quilters to keep living and loving the traditional patchwork quilt blocks and patterns.  I will never tire of the Log Cabin blocks.  Sure, there is a way to make them fit the parameters of modern quilts…but I will continue to keep the traditional Log Cabin quilts alive and well in my sewing studio.

I’m definitely not dissing the modern quilts, I just prefer traditional.

I walked into my local quilt shop the other day and nary a grey fabric could be found.  I thought this was interesting and mentioned it to the owner.  She said the same thing I was thinking – many of her customers are in the 50+ age group and they are not interested in the modern fabrics or quilting.  They, too, want to keep traditional quilting alive and well in their little quilt worlds.

That being the case, I offer you a short list of websites that showcase traditional quilt blocks:

    • BlockCentral.com
    • Quilt Blocks Galre!! Quilting with Marcia Hohn’s Quilter’s Cache
    • Free Library of Quilt Blocks from McCall’s Quilting
    • Free Block Patterns from Jinny Beyer
    • Free Quilt Block Patterns from About.com
    • Free Quilt Patterns from Quilt in a Day
    • Quilt Blocks by Type from The World Wide Quilting Page
    • The Online Quilt Block Pattern Library from Block Crazy
    • Quilt Block Patterns from Ludlow Quilt and Sew
    • Famous Quilt Blocks: A Roundup of the Classics from Craftsy

Monday Mountain Laurels

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 11, 2015 by TK HarrisonMay 10, 2015

My Monday wish for you is that you are able to use all five of your senses to enjoy a touch of nature.  Vibrant colors, amazing smells, listening to the birdies as they chirp away, touching the soft petals of God’s creations and tasting the edible flowers that beautify our world.
