Star Power: Summer Star Quilt Block & Summer Star Variation Quilt Block

Summer Star Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!Summer Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Mint Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square.
  • Mint Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares.
  • Mint Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with FOUR (4) of the White 2 1/4″ squares to create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles for these portions of the quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares.
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares for the Flying Geese portion of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the the results of the White 2 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Flying Geese portions of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares.
  • White: Cut EIGHT 2 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with FOUR (4) of Mint Green 2 1/4″ squares and FOUR (4) of the Green 2 1/4″ squares to create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles for these portions of the quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the the results of the Green 2 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Flying Geese portions of this quilt block.)

  • Aquamarine: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares.

  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares.
  • Teal: Cut Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ squares. On the back side each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with FOUR (4) of the White 2 1/4″ squares to create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles for this portion of the quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of FOUR (4) of the White 2 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Flying Geese portions of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with FOUR (4) of the White 2 1/4″ squares to create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles for this portion of the quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Teal 4 1/4″ square to create FOUR (4) Flying Geese portions of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Teal 4 1/4″ square to create FOUR (4) Flying Geese portions of this quilt block.)

According to the “Farmers’ Almanac” the Bees have been Slowly Disappearing

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 3/4″ squares.
  • Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares.
  • Orange: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square.
  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be paired with the Orange 2 1/2″ squares as well as the results from FOUR (4) of the White 2 3/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Interrupted Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 3/4″ squares.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be paired with the Orange 2 1/2″ squares as well as the results from the Orange 4 3/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Interrupted Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be used to flank the Purple 1 3/4″ squares and the White 1 3/4″ squares.)
