On Cloud Nine: Big T Quilt Block

Big T Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the Blue 4 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Navy Blue 4 1/4″ squares & the White 4 1/4″ squares. Which will create EIGHT (8) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 4 1/4″ squares & the White 4 1/4″ squares. Which will create EIGHT (8) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Navy Blue 4 1/4″ squares & the Navy Blue 4 1/4″ squares. Which will create EIGHT (8) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares.
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangles.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Gray 2 1/2″ squares & on ONE (1) other side they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired on TWO (2) sides with the Gray 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired on ONE (1) side by the Yellow 2 1/2″ squares & on ONE (1) other side by the Gray 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Yellow 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired on TWO (2) sides with the Yellow 2 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Light Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch, they’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
