On Cloud Nine: Picket Fence Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Blue 6 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & lower left-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Light Blue 6 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & lower left-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 5″ rectangles. (These will flank either the left or the right side of the Dark Purple 5″ squares as is needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6″ rectangles. (These will flank either the top or the bottom side of the Dark Purple 5″ squares as is needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Purple: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These will be flanked by the Purple 2″ x 5″ rectangles and by the Purple 2″ x 6″ rectangles as is needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block)
  • Brown: Cut EIGHT (8) 2  7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 2  7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Brown 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Brown 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Brown 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 3″ rectangles. (ONE (1) of these will be used to join the Blue 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangle & ONE (1) of these will be used to join the Blue 2″ square to create a Log Cabin as needed for the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (TWO (2) of these will be flanked by TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles as needed for the top & bottom rows of this quilt block. The other TWO (2) will flank the Log Cabin as needed for the center row of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangle. (This will be used to join one of the Purple 2″ x 3″ rectangles with the Blue 2″ square to create a Log Cabin as needed for the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2″ square. (This will be used to join one of the Purple 2″ x 3″ rectangles with the Blue 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangle to create a Log Cabin as needed for the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 3″ rectangle. (This will be used to join the TWO (2) Purple 2″ x 3″ rectangles to create a Log Cabin as needed for the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ square. (This will be paired with the Blue 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangle & will be the very center of the Log Cabin as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Turquoise 3 7/8″ squares & with the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Turquoise: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow
    7 1/4″ square & with the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Turquoise: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Turquoise 3 7/8″ squares & with the results of the Yellow 7 1/4″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares.. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Yellow 7 1/4″ square & by the results of the Turquoise 3 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
