Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Salmon: Cut FOURTEEN (14) 2 1/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.
  • Salmon: Cut ONE (1) 9 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles to make this quilt block.
  • Turquoise: Cut FOURTEEN (14) 2 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the Salmon 2 1/4″ squares to create half-square triangles.)
  • Turquoise: Cut ONE (1) 9 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles to make this quilt block.

If you make TWELVE (12) “Lost Ships Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 1 3/4″ squares.
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 6 ” strips.
  • Red: Cut THIRTY (30) 1 3/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6″ square.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 6 ” strips.
  • White: Cut THIRTY (30) 1 3/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the Red 1 3/4″ squares to make half-square triangles.)
  • White: Cut FIFTEEN (15) 1 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.

  • Blue: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ strips.
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ strips.
  • Blue: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 1 3/4″ squares.
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares.
  • White: Cut THIRTY-TWO (32) 1 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.

  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares.
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.
