On Cloud Nine: Two Colors Quilt Block

Two Colors Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Two Colors Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Purple 2 5/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Red 2 5/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Red 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. (These will be paired with the Purple 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Red 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Orange: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Purple 5″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White 5″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank either the results of the Orange 4 1/2″ square, or the results of the Rust 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 5″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are pared with the results of the Orange 4 1/4″ square & the results of the Rush 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares, which will create the center of the ‘H’, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the Green 2″ squares & the White 2″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares as needed sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 2″ squares, which will create the center of the ‘H’, as needed sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (FOUR (4) of these triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. All of these triangles will flank all of the ‘H’ portion’s of this quilt block as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
