On Cloud Nine: King’s Crown Quilt Block

King’s Crown Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank all four sides, the White 4 1/2″ square to create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut TWO (2) 7″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2″ x 6″ strips, as well as the White 2″ x 9″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides by the results of the Light Blue 5 1/4″ square, which will also create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6″ strips (These will flank the results of the Light Blue 5 1/4″ square on one side, and the results of the Light Blue 7″ squares on the opposite sides, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 9″ strips. (These will flank the results of the Light Blue 5 1/4″ square on one side, and the results of the Light Blue 7″ squares on the opposite sides, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips (These will be flanked by the Light Blue 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips (These will be flanked on one side by the Light Pink 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips, and on the other side by the Pink 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips (These will be flanked on one side by the Light Blue
    1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips, and on the other side by the Blue 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips (These will be flanked on one side by the Pink 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips, and on the other side by the Bright Pink 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Bright Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips (These will be flanked on one side by the Blue 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips, and on the other side by the Bright Blue 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Bright Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips (These will be flanked by the Bright Pink 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips as needed for this quilt block.)

 Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Turquoise: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will be used to flank the White 2 1/2″ squares to create the first Square in a Square section of this quilt block.)
  • Turquoise: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will be paired with the Purple 5 1/4″ triangles to create the Quarter-Square triangles for this section of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will be paired with the Turquoise 5 1/4″ triangles to create the Quarter-Square triangles for this section of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 2 1/2″ squares. (These squares are the center of the the first Square in a Square section of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will be used to flank the Turquoise 3 1/4″ triangles create the second Square in a Square section of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Salmon: Cut FOURTEEN (14) 2 1/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.
  • Salmon: Cut ONE (1) 9 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles to make this quilt block.
  • Turquoise: Cut FOURTEEN (14) 2 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the Salmon 2 1/4″ squares to create half-square triangles.)
  • Turquoise: Cut ONE (1) 9 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles to make this quilt block.

  • White: Cut THIRTY (30) 1 3/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the Red 1 3/4″ squares to make half-square triangles.)
  • White: Cut FIFTEEN (15) 1 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.
