Quilted Kitchen: Milky Way Quilt Square & Homemade Milky Ways Recipe

Milky Way Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Pink:  Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/4″ squares.
  • Lt. Pink:  Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares.Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.
  • Yellow:  Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares.
  • Yellow:  Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.
  • Yellow:  Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times.  You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.  You only need TWO (2) of these triangles to make a single quilt block.
  • Goldenrod: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares.
  • Goldenrod:  Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.  You only need TWO (2) of these triangles to make a single quilt block.
  • Orange:  Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • White:  Cut ONE (1) 8 3/4″ square.
  • Blue:  Cut THREE (3) 4 1/2″ squares.
  • Purple:  Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue:  Cut FOUR (4) 1 3/4″ squares
  • Blue:  Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times.  You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.
  • Blue:  Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares
  • Sienna:  Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares
  • Sienna:  Cut TWO (2) 1 3/4″ x 4 1/2″ strips
  • Yellow:  Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ squares
  • Yellow:  Cut ONE (1) 1 3/4″ x 4 1/2″ strip

Quilt Block Construction Diagram:

Using this image (above) as a guide, sew your Sunflower together as you would a basic Nine-Patch block, piecing the corner portions then the center and finally the block.

Raspberry Cheesecake Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lilac:  Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.
  • Medium Purple:  Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares.  On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.
  • Dark Purple:  Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.
  • Salmon:  Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square.
  • Ecru:  Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares.
  • Ecru:  Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green #1:  Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square.
  • Green #2:  Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.
  • Green #3:  Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square.  Then cut this square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times.  You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles.
  • Green #4:  Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares.
  • White:  Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square.  Then cut this square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times.  You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles.
  • White:  Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares.
