Flashback Tuesday: Butterfly Garden designed by BOMquilts.com with fabric from Ellen Medlock Studios

Quilt Therapy Posted on August 5, 2014 by TK HarrisonAugust 3, 2014

This was one of the most amazing quilts that I made and there’s a wonderful (even tear-jerking) story behind it.  I designed and pieced it from one of Ellen Medlock’s earlier quilt fabric lines.

It sat on my cutting table for a while before my Aunt Leonard asked me to make a baby quilt for one of her nieces (my first cousin, whom I didn’t know).  Since I already had this quilt made, I sent it off to Kathryn Rister (www.quiltkitsandquarters.com) and asked her to quilt it.  Her beautiful quilting (and I *do* mean beautiful) enhanced this quilt in a way that I had never expected.

Once I had the binding and tag put on, I sent the quilt off to my Aunt Leonard so she could add a card and send it to my cousin and her baby girl.  She was very pleased with the quilt.

Not too long after all of this occurred, I was able to take a trip to Iowa, staying with my third (out of four) foster parents and one evening, they watched my kids while I went over to visit with Aunt Leonard and Uncle Honey.  They had purchased a new (to them) house some years ago and I had never seen it.  After hugs and moochies, I turned around to sit down and was STUNNED speachless.  In Aunt Leonard’s living room window were glass butterflies, hanging from thin fishing wire, in front of that window.

I had NO IDEA she loved butterflies.  I have been a part of Aunt Leonard’s life practically since I was born and never once did she mention she loved butterflies.  But, there it was.  No wonder she loved the quilt for her niece!  What precious memories that baby will have, not just from the quilt but also knowing about Aunt Leonard’s love of butterflies.

In a word:  PRICELESS!

Flashback Tuesday: Golden Royal Layers designed by BOMquilts.com

Quilt Therapy Posted on July 29, 2014 by TK HarrisonJuly 25, 2014

Since we have been celebrating “Christmas in July 2014” at BOMquilts.com, I thought it appropriate to flashback on another holiday quilt gem from our “Christmas in July 2008” selections – “Golden Royal Layers“:

This finished out to be an absolutely gorgeous quilt…I just wish I remember who I gifted it to!  LOL

Try making it with your favorite holiday fabrics that are on the market now, but be sure you find a fabric that has the fabric panels as that’s one of the things that really makes this quilt stand out!

Flashback Tuesday: 2006-2007 BOM Sampler Quilt

Quilt Therapy Posted on July 8, 2014 by TK HarrisonJuly 13, 2014

I made this block of the month sampler with some gorgeous fabrics and colors.  And what was the most amazing about it was that we spent the summer of 2006 traveling the Pacific northwest in our camper, following the Lewis & Clark trail along the way…but my husband also had speaking engagements in Portland and then Sacramento.  So, we loaded up our four kids and two dogs and hit the road!  We’d stay in a campsite for three or more days, enjoying everything around us…and then move on down the road to the next campground to do the same.  One of the places we stopped had an aquarium that we took our kids to.  I took this photo below, thinking of how beautiful the colors were…and then I realized I was working with those exact same colors in this 2006-2007 BOM quilt!

Flashback Tuesday: Purely Nine 2011 BOM Quilt Exclusively Designed by BOMquilts.com

Quilt Therapy Posted on July 1, 2014 by TK HarrisonJuly 2, 2014

What can I say about this super-simple quilt…except it is purely divine!  The blocks are big so the size of your quilt is bigger.  And I can tell you first-hand that my youngest daughter sleeps under her Purely Nine quilt of Love every single night.
