39 Years (plus 384 months)

Quilt Therapy Posted on July 2, 2008 by TK HarrisonJuly 2, 2008

We celebrated Mama Lu’s birthday last night, with dinner, cake and presents.  She loved our gift and we all enjoyed the cards that the kids made her.

Now, we will spend the next few days enjoying family & friends here at Harrison Wilderness Base for our annual reuinion.  Except this year, there’s a burn ban in effect.  No fireworks – and no potentially deadly fires!

Pesky Little Peepers

Quilt Therapy Posted on July 1, 2008 by TK HarrisonJuly 1, 2008

I needed a bit of help last night.  I finished a quilt top and needed to photograph it.  I asked my family to help … i.e the two tallest members and the two shortest members.

But, do you think I could get the photographs easily?  Just when I thought everyone was doing well and the quilt was lined up well in the camera, I get to my computer to download the images and find this:

Is it so hard to just sit BEHIND the quilt and hold it down?

I guess so.

{sigh}

Snow Smores in Watercolor

Quilt Therapy Posted on June 30, 2008 by TK HarrisonJune 30, 2008

DD#1 *loves* my Snow Smores!  So much that she asked me to make her one as a wall hanging for her room!

Since we always try to give the bigger kids some quiet ideas of things to do during nap (when the mom and DD#3 naps), last week I suggested she do a water color painting of a Snow Smore.

That child’s talent just amazes me – see for yourself:

Casa Harrison

Quilt Therapy Posted on June 23, 2008 by TK HarrisonJune 25, 2008

Life as we know it has returned to “our normal” here at Casa Harrison.  We picked the two big girls up from their various church camps on Friday, and they both had a marvelous time.  Both were ready to sign up for next year.   DD#2 came home with a cold & slight fever, so she’s been a bit under the weather.  DD#1 came home with a boyfriend, who she’s already written to, so we’re trying to calm her and remind her that she’s just 12 years old.  Yesterday, she spent the day walking around and taking photos of everyone in the house, so she could send him pix of our family.  ummm, whoa, says the mom!  lol

I’d like to say I had a busy weekend and got a lot done – but, really, I lazed around.  I did finish writing all of the patterns for our upcoming 2008 “Christmas in July” celebration on BOMquilts.com, so at least I did a *litttle* work!  I also finished with another “Joy” original design, the pattern to be launched during July as well – now I just have to write the patterns!

And here’s the other “Joy” design, in case you missed it earlier:

Father’s Day Fit for a King – aka Day Camp Ends for Two and Begins for Two Others

Quilt Therapy Posted on June 16, 2008 by TK HarrisonJune 16, 2008

I wasn’t sure how all of our weekend plans were going to come together, but in the end, it was all lovely and successful and we were all happy to enjoy an evening of relaxation last night.

Friday came the end of the dad-person’s Boy Scout Day Camp work (he taught archery) and the son and nephew’s final program showed off a group of hot, sun-burned, sweaty and tired little boys.  I’d say the day camp staff did their job!

On Saturday, youngest daughter completed her two-week day camp with two performances of a play, and it was absolutely adorable – especially for the age-range and wide variety of children that were involved in the production.

Sunday brought Father’s Day – lunch with the family and MIL and a few gifts for the dad-person.  I put together a book for him at Shutterfly, chronicling our travels through the Pacific northwest in the summer of 2006.  Pretty proud of myownbadself, as it’s a great history of our “freedom” summer!  Look close at the shirt he chose to wear on his special day:

After finishing with the Father festivities, we had to get the next phase of “Operation Kid Camp” underway, as both of our older daughters were heading off to week-long church camps.  We dumped DD#2 on her head first, since her camp is only about 20 miles from our house.  She was excited, anxious and a touch nervous, as this was her first overnight camp (she’ll be there until Friday):

And then we loaded back up and drove for an hour, to drop DD#1 off at her camp.  I’d show you a photo of her, but she was in the “kiss me, I love you, now please leave” mode.  As we were leaving, we all gave her hugs and moochies and when I asked the son-man to hug his sister goodbye, he turned and started walking away, saying “good riddance!”  I’m thinking he’ll enjoy a quiet week without the big sister giving him orders!  So, instead of her photo, I share with you one of the other residents of the camp:

Well, comeon – this IS Texas, afterall!
