Thanks Does Not Begin to Touch Our Appreciation

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 11, 2011 by TK HarrisonMay 11, 2011

If you are reading this blog or have been for some time, you may have seen the ChipIn button on the right side or heard about our oldest daughter being accepted to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design’s summer camp program – and her not being awarded a scholarship, so we’ve had to do some serious fundraising to help her on this adventure.

To those who contributed, you have our hearts and our prayers and we thank you OH SO MUCH!  We received word this week that the retired teacher’s union in our school district is making up the difference of the donations and tuition!  Our daughter is SO excited and I’ve informed my MIL to get those plane tickets ordered!

God is good.  Friends are blessings from God.  Thanks to those of you who made a budding artist’s dreams come true.

Easter Celebration

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 26, 2011 by TK HarrisonApril 25, 2011

When we celebrate in church, we do it up right!  Our two youngest kids danced with streamers during one of the songs on Easter Sunday, and in the middle of their song, they threw balloons out into the congregation so everyone could celebrate with us!  It’s one thing for the folks to watch and enjoy the kids’ dancing, but quite another when you have them participate with you!

A Bag in Hand…

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 12, 2011 by TK HarrisonApril 12, 2011

Last weekend, the ladies of our church held a Texas convention.  As part of it, they made bags to fill with information and printed resources for all of the attendees.  The youth were also asked to assist with the clean-up from the luncheon, and funds would be given to the youth group for their mission trip this summer (or for my middle daughter’s camp tuition, since she’s in youth but not in high school and not old enough to go on the trip).

The convention was about a week away and the organizers were in a tizzy – more and more registrations kept coming in and they were unable to meet the demand with the bags – so they called in the Big Bag Dog:  ME. 🙂

First they asked me to finish 10 bags they had already cut out.

Then they asked me to make 20 more bags as more registrations arrived.

Finally, two days before the convention, they asked for five more – just in case women came in and registered the day of the event.

Luckily, I have a family who tolerates – and occasionally enjoys – helping me with projects.  One daughter sewed, two daughters ironed fabric and my husband even got involved by turning and pressing the bags to finish them.  We met their demands head-on and when I took the girls to help the youth clean up, it gave me a smile to see that many of the ladies from our own church made sure to get the bags that I made <grin>.

Summer Camp for Budding Artist

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 28, 2011 by TK HarrisonMarch 28, 2011

As far back as I can remember, our 15 year-old daughter has been an artist.  She started making the usual potato-head people and her talent, energy and knowledge has expanded beyond anything her mom could envision doing!  Here’s an example of an oil painting she did a few years ago that we sold:

She has been accepted into one of the Savannah College of Art and Design’s summer sessions, but was not awarded a scholarship.  It was made clear to her that without the scholarship, we could not afford to send her.  Her grandmother is willing to share her sky miles with her and travel with her, so that part is covered – it’s just the tuition that we cannot pay for.

So, I’m humbling myself to ask you, dear readers, if you can help send our oldest daughter to an art camp of her dreams!  If so, please click on the link below – any amount will help!

We thank you from the bottom of our artistic hearts!

Chocolate

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 16, 2011 by TK HarrisonMarch 15, 2011

Yes, I’m another quilter who craves chocolate.

Say it’s not true!

The other day, I was looking at my personal Facebook page, and right there – to the right of the page, was an advertisement for none other than CHOCOLATE.

I should mention that I do not eat food (much) in my office.  I have an out-building, a shed.  It is not attached to our house and is separate (less interruptions?!).  Therefore, any varmints who can get in through the cracks or up through the floorboard will and do.  I do not want bugs in my workplace.

So, what was a gal to do without chocolate when the craving hits???

I made the excuse of going home for a potty break, and then raided my sewing room (ah yes, have to hide the treats from the kids in there!) for ANY chocolate I could find.

And find it I did!

Ahhhhhhhhh.   Mmmmmmmmmm.
