Stars & Triangles Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Lilac
2 1/4″ squares. They’re also flanked by the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles & by the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. All are needed for this quilt block.) - Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. - Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares.)
- Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. - Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lilac 3 1/4″ squares. & they’ll flank the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ square. All are needed for this quilt block.)
- Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lilac 3 1/4″ squares. & they’ll flank the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ square. All are needed for this quilt block.)
