Monkey Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Brown: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Maroon 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block when they’re sewn together.)
- Brown: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.) - Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Brown 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block when they’re sewn together.)
- Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when it’s sewn together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Brown 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Maroon 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when it’s sewn together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Maroon/White Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
