Blue Plate Special Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4 quilt blocks. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 8 3/8″ Square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It is flanked by the results of the Yellow 4 3/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Blue 5 1/4″ square in the center of this quilt block. Once they are sewn together they will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 8 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Blue 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
