I wanted to sew this weekend – NEEDED quilt therapy – but didn’t want to dive into one of my intricately designed quilts. Instead, I took a bit of time and made two more LWR charity quilts! I have now fulfilled my goal of these LWR quilts until August. I doubt I’ll be able to wait to make more since they are SEW simple (12 blocks at 21″ each = a 60″ x 80″ quilt top). Now I need to focus on my two other chosen charity quilt projects so I can keep myself up-to-date with those.

2014 Charity Quilting Continues
I got a little ahead of myself with my charity quilting this month in one of my chosen categories, right on target with another category and am praying I can get the third category caught up before the end of April! What really happened is that I had cut out the fabrics for both a Quilted Lovie and a LWR quilt and they were cluttering my mind when I went into my sewing room. The only way I figured I could remedy this was to put together and finish the two projects so my sewing room wasn’t AS cluttered with unfinished projects…making room on my sewing and cutting tables for other projects that needed to be completed.
As you will recall, I vowed to make one Lutheran World Relief (LWR) quilt, one Quilted Lovie and one Military Veteran’s Quilt each month. You can see my previous LWR quilts here. You can see the February and March Quilted Lovies here.

How are YOU doing on your charity quilts for 2014?
Special Quilting on a Military Veteran’s Quilt
When I give my longarm quilter a quilt, I rarely ask for her to do a pattern. She is the expert and she quilts my quilts with love. I did ask for stars to be used when quilting this special Military Veteran’s quilt. But, Meloney went way further and quilted the quilt with both stars and a little bit of micro-quilting where I had placed raw edge applique. I am sure the recipient of this quilt will treasure it, in part because it is made especially for him and in part because of the beautiful quilting Meloney has done.
Military Veteran’s Quilts
In keeping with my charity quilt goals (found here), I have made the February and March Military Veteran’s quilts…will have to wait on the April one as I have a bit of a backlog of other quilt projects waiting on me.
Free quilt patterns coming soon! The first quilt is already dedicated to a Marine Veteran…the second quilt has yet to be quilted. Do YOU make quilts for Military Veterans?
Fulfilling my 2014 Goals…One Project at a Time
I wrote about my 2014 charity quilt goals here. I have now made three quilts for our church’s support of the Lutheran World Relief. I should have 12 of them done by the time the quilt ladies at church set aside two weeks at the beginning of each February to make and finish their quilts. Thus far, these three are what I have made:
Took the bull by the horns this month and got one of my three charity quilts completed…instead of waiting until the last minute as I did in March <blush>. Happy as a quilt bug in a quilted rug!
