Countdown to a Blessed Christmas – 15 Days Until Christmas

Quilt Therapy Posted on December 11, 2008 by TK HarrisonDecember 11, 2008

The kids had a fabulous craft at Sacred Arts last night, making these adorable sock snowmen:

Ms.  Judy said she saw the instructions on the Carol Duvall Show, so I went looking for them and sure enough, the instructions are online and can be found here.

I must say that even the son-man enjoyed making this – and he’s one of those who usually refuses to make any craft (whether at Scouts or at church).  Fun project for kids at school, home or church – and for moms, the cleanup was a snap (except for all that rice that didn’t make it in the sock).

Thoughts for this Christmas Countdown Day:  What fun it is to share in the fun of the Christmas season, by making crafts with your kids.  Especially when ALL of them enjoy the fun!

Countdown to a Blessed Christmas – 16 Days Until Christmas

Quilt Therapy Posted on December 10, 2008 by TK HarrisonDecember 9, 2008

Birthday and Christmas presents are being delivered by the nice man in brown – the time is drawing nearer and I’m so excited for my kids to see their gifts!  Remember, we don’t have regular television (we have a tv, but no reception except for movies) – so, they can make lists all they want, but they really don’t have a clue what the latest and greatest is…so, their parents get to surprise them with things that will hopefully make a big difference in their lives.  I’m like a kid, too, because I just can’t wait for them to see what I’ve chosen!

Thoughts for this Chrsitmas Countdown Day:  Joy.  That’s what it’s all about – finding joy.

Countdown to a Blessed Christmas – 17 Days Until Christmas

Quilt Therapy Posted on December 9, 2008 by TK HarrisonDecember 8, 2008

My heart is in my throat this week as a friend just got fired.  I don’t get it.  Well, I do — and she explained it to me last week.  She had a baby in September … and her maternity leave temp has done all that she can to take the job, even going as far as to call the owner in the evenings and cry over needing the job so much.  My friend has been there over a year, and I’m pretty sure she’s a hard worker and does her job well.

But, whatever happened with the job doesn’t matter.  What matters is that it’s nearly Christmas and my friend is a single mother who has two children to support – and no job.  And my heart totally goes out to her and her family — they don’t deserve it, and yet they’ve been hit pretty bad this year.

If you’re the praying type, would you say a little prayer for Tc2 with me?  I pray that she finds comfort and love in the latest development of her life.  And I pray that she finds a new job, one that values her, as she should be valued.

Thoughts for this Christmas Countdown Day:  Please keep in mind that there are many who are less fortunate.  They need a shoulder to cry on, a friend to help keep them on track and the love of family and friends…to make it to the next day.

Countdown to a Blessed Christmas – 18 Days Until Christmas

Quilt Therapy Posted on December 8, 2008 by TK HarrisonDecember 6, 2008

The three little ones and I spent Wednesday, before their church class, shopping for two angels from the Salvation Army Angel Tree in a nearby town.  It was fun, to help instill the gift of giving in them – and they really took charge and chose items that they thought the two children would like.  I chose a girl and a boy, both around 2 years-old, for them to play Santa for.

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program provides new clothing and/or toys for children. A sponsoring company or corporation places a Christmas tree in a secure, high-pedestrian traffic area or lobby. The tree is decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child who will receive the gift. Contributors remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags. The toys are then delivered to the unit and later picked up by the parent to distribute to the child/children on Christmas Day.  For More Information visit www.SalvationArmyUSA.org

We still have a pair of shoes to buy for the young boy, but I’ll do that on Sunday and then the kids can deliver the bags of goodies to the Salvation Army on Wednesday when we go to town.

How fun it was to see my children on the other end of gifting!  I enjoyed it immensely, and I hope they did, too!

Thoughts for this Christmas Countdown Day:  Giving is way more fun than receiving, especially when you get to help a child in need.
