Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Maroon: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be the center’s of each of the “stars” as needed for this quilt block.)
- Orange: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the results of the Orange 2 3/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Orange 2 3/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Bright Stars Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Bright Stars Variation Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 2 5/8″ squares. (These will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Gold: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will be the four corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the results of the Gold 2 3/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TEN (10) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Blue 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the Gold 2 3/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
