The Baker is in the House!

Quilt Therapy Posted on September 6, 2013 by TK HarrisonSeptember 2, 2013

My husband is quite the baker – especially of bread!  He truly enjoys making us luscious treats to enjoy.  Here is his latest culinary conquest:

They look as good as they tasted – can you just imagine the SMELL that these lovely rolls make while baking?  He has a knack for baking breads and we definitely love nearly all of his baking efforts.  YUMMO!

Big Sis & Little Sis Quilt Gifts Videos

Quilt Therapy Posted on August 15, 2013 by TK HarrisonJuly 26, 2020

Unless I am gifting someone with a quilt who is in our household or comes to me to receive a quilted gift, I rarely get to see how my quilted gifts are received.  I had specifically asked the Mom of the girls who I made the t-shirt quilt for the big sister and the non-doll-size little sister quilt for, to videotape them opening their gifts.  I worked hard, as did my quilter, to get the gifts completed on time – and to see the true fruits of our labor through the eyes of these young ladies sure puts a smile on this quilter’s face.

Yes, the wee one asked if it was a blanket and her mom said yes.  I gave them a free pass but sent an email to the Mom proclaiming that it was a quilt and not a blanket.  So, they sent another video to show that the Mom *did* make sure the wee one knew what it was that I made her:

And here’s a couple of still photos of both girls with their quilts.  Ahhhh, does my quilted heart good to see quilted joy!

Uncle Sam Love

Quilt Therapy Posted on August 14, 2013 by TK HarrisonAugust 12, 2013

Our kids have a couple of pseudo-uncles who are actually friends of my husband’s from way back in his Junior High Boy Scouting years.  We have watched their children grow up and they are now watching our children grow up.  Their kids have all graduated from high school and all but one from college, with two of them married off and another to be married in December this year.  We are a bit behind the curve as my husband is a few years older than both of his friends….and our kids are the youngest of the bunch.

We had asked Uncle Sam if he would smoke/bbq the meat for our oldest daughter’s graduation celebration and he went above and beyond by not only doing the meat we asked for but also adding another meat and hand-delivering all of it a few days before her party!

When Uncle Sam comes to our house, he just walks in.  The first time he did that, it nearly scared the kids half to death – they still talk about it to this day, and it’s been about five years ago!  🙂

It was no less startling this time except they looked before they screamed and realized who was walking in the door.  hehe

On top of the gift of the gift of the meat, Ms. Graduate also received a gift from her Uncle Sam – and she absolutely LOVED the time and effort it took for him to wrap it up for her…and to put the pretty orange crepe paper on as a bow (which she has saved and has it in her room)!

Inside the bag were some awesome gifts, too – especially for the UTSA-bound college student.  Her Uncle Sam is an alumni so he has special connections at UTSA…such as his wife who works in the alumni office!

And here is the happy girl with her Uncle Sam (on the left) and his dad, Mr. Sam (on the right):

I am sure, at some point, I will finally run out of stories about our oldest daughter’s graduation…but, not there yet!  By the time I finish, it’ll be time to give our other three children equal opportunity.  :-)  Luckily, I have three more school years before we have another graduate.

T-Shirt Quilt: The Big Reveal!

Quilt Therapy Posted on August 12, 2013 by TK HarrisonAugust 10, 2013

As of Thursday, the t-shirt quilt package had arrived at its destination.  I wrote about the t-shirt quilt and the little sis quilt here, here and here.  The graduate that the quilt was for was off for a few weeks at a church camp but returned sometime today.  I have asked the mom of the girls (big sis & little sis) to videotape and then take still photos of the girls with their quilts but I have not received them yet.  Understandably, it’s Saturday and they take their family time very seriously so am sure they opened their gifts, I’ll just have to wait on the video and photos.

BUT, that doesn’t mean ya’ll need to suffer over not seeing the finished product!  Alas, here is a photograph of the finished t-shirt quilt:

Ahhh, life is good and I pray that the young lady and her little sister, who was gifted the quilt loves it as much as my quilted heart did!

T-Shirt Quilt Therapy

Quilt Therapy Posted on July 24, 2013 by TK HarrisonJuly 24, 2013

I have finally finished the t-shirt quilt for the young lady I spoke about here.  It is lovely, if I do say so myownself!  The t-shirts are soft and pliable – not stiff as some stabilizers make them.

To give credit where I found the best instructions and inspiration, this blog post was the best-fit for my needs.  Clear, concise instructions…great information and inspiration.

And that interfacing she used?  DIVINE!  Simple to work with and way better than any other stabilizer I’ve worked with because of its softness.

I put the label on the t-shirt quilt and her “little sister” quilt last night.  They are all bagged and ready for shipping – as soon as I foot it down to the post office!

I will reveal the final image of the quilt once the recipient receives it.
