Living and Loving Quilt Therapy

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 10, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 9, 2014

Remember me posting this photo of a finished quilt top I had made for a very special (local) friend?

MikieMama

This is made from my friend’s mom’s pajamas that she wore as dementia ravaged her brain and life.  My lovely quilter, Meloney, has finished quilting the quilt and I cannot wait to get my hands on this beautiful creation and finish it!  Here are some photos Meloney shared with me:

I think this is a beauty!  Thanks Meloney!

Another T-Shirt Quilt (continued)

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 12, 2013 by TK HarrisonNovember 12, 2013

As stated in this post, the t-shirt quilt I was commissioned to make is two-sided, reversible.  This evening, I completed the back side of the quilt.  The front has all white t-shirts on it, the back has the colored t-shirts on it.  I can’t decide which one I like better – but both are super, to me!

And I amazed myself in that I made this side knowing my final size was to match the top side.  Once the back was complete, I laid it out on my bed and put the front quilt on top of it – and was astounded that they matched up nearly perfectly!

On to my quilter so I can put a DONE stamp on this fun project!

Another T-Shirt Quilt

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 11, 2013 by TK HarrisonNovember 10, 2013

This quilt I was commissioned to make made my heart sing – because the gentleman who the quilt is for rode his bicycle in a number of MS races!  Extra Tammy points for the soon-to-be recipient of this special quilt!

This is no ‘regular’ t-shirt quilt, though.  It will be two-sided, or reversible.  He had white t-shirts and colored t-shirts.  His wife, who asked me to make the quilt, only wanted a lap-size quilt of 60″ square..  Hence, with all of the shirts she sent, we agreed to do a white t-shirt side of the quilt and a colored t-shirt quilt on the back.  Essentially, I am piecing two lap-quilts that will become one.

While the back quilt is in-progress, I thought I’d share the front of the quilt:

I’m certainly having fun!  Do you make t-shirt quilts?

Underwater Quilting

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 4, 2013 by TK HarrisonNovember 4, 2013

Do you ever have so many quilt projects going on at one time that you can’t seem to focus on any ONE of them because you’re thinking about your ever-growing list of other projects that need attention, too?  I found myself in that exact situation this past weekend – *needing* to work on one project but thinking about all of the other projects I have lying around in my sewing room.  I could NOT focus.  I did not meet my weekend goals of at least completing a big project so I could work on the other projects.  I occasionally feel like I’m drowning in quilt projects – in a good way, with my scuba gear on 🙂

Perhaps you’d like to peek in my sewing room at the projects:

This is the project I need to finish ASAP – a two-sided t-shirt quilt.

This box is chock full of shirts & sweatshirts for my next t-shirt quilt.

Two of my children are getting confirmed this month, so these are their stoles that need pressing and embellishing.

This is the cut-out fabric for a tote bag exchange that is not required to be finished until March 2014 but it’s such a fun & quick pattern that I want to make it now!

This is the cut-out fabric for another tote bag, except this one is for me and my iPad.

This is one of two Quilted Lovies in progress.

And here we have the retro fabric to bind an antique quilt for a cousin – just waiting for me to get to it.

And without sharing the photos, I also have a lap quilt and a baby quilt that need the binding attached so I can send them on their way to their intended recipients.

Whew, just listing all of these quilt projects out makes me tired…and it certainly hasn’t gained me any more motivation to work on them.  Guess I’ll keep plugging away until that oft-hiding quilt mojo returns!

How many projects to YOU have going on at one time?

Big Sis & Little Sis Quilt Gifts Videos

Quilt Therapy Posted on August 15, 2013 by TK HarrisonJuly 26, 2020

Unless I am gifting someone with a quilt who is in our household or comes to me to receive a quilted gift, I rarely get to see how my quilted gifts are received.  I had specifically asked the Mom of the girls who I made the t-shirt quilt for the big sister and the non-doll-size little sister quilt for, to videotape them opening their gifts.  I worked hard, as did my quilter, to get the gifts completed on time – and to see the true fruits of our labor through the eyes of these young ladies sure puts a smile on this quilter’s face.

Yes, the wee one asked if it was a blanket and her mom said yes.  I gave them a free pass but sent an email to the Mom proclaiming that it was a quilt and not a blanket.  So, they sent another video to show that the Mom *did* make sure the wee one knew what it was that I made her:

And here’s a couple of still photos of both girls with their quilts.  Ahhhh, does my quilted heart good to see quilted joy!
