Flashback Tuesday: Spencer’s Museum Memories

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 18, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 17, 2014

When I was asked to design a block of the month quilt in 2006 out of the “Spencer’s Museum” quilt fabric line, I designed a row of the month quilt.  And, since my maiden name is Spencer, I kept this quilt and it remains on our sofa to this day – used and loved as quilts should be.  It’s not a fast quilt to make but I believe the instructions are written well enough that you can make quick work of it, following along for each month’s instructions.  You can find the free quilt pattern here.

Flashback Tuesday: Baby Boy Loves Poetry

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 11, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 9, 2014

I absolutely LOVED making this quilt, and it’s companion, the “Baby Girl Loves Poetry“.  Asymmetrical log cabin blocks were used for the heart with added love blocks at the top and bottom of the quilt.

What are you waiting for?  Get busy – this quilt goes together quickly and is a blessing to anyone you gift it to!

Flashback Tuesday: Quilted Card Wallet

Quilt Therapy Posted on February 25, 2014 by TK HarrisonFebruary 25, 2014

We have four children.  I was either nursing a baby or pregnant for eight straight years.  My diaper bag, at times, was a backpack, other times a large tote bag.  At one point, my husband and I were changing the diapers of three kids. When our youngest child was finally potty-trained, my husband and I calculated we had been changing diapers for 10 years straight!  I can assure you, we called our usual date-night dinner companions and went out to celebrate over that milestone!

Once the kids were in school, I swore I would NEVER carry a purse bigger than absolutely necessary.  My shoulders thanked me.  My back thanked me.

My purse is big enough to hold the bare essentials…and if the kids want to bring along anything in the auto, I make them carry it themselves – either in a purse or in a backpack.  I am *done* being their pack-horse.

Fast forward a few years to 2007 when I made this Quilted Card Wallet for my very small purse and am still using it, to this day, seven years later.  The fabric is an old line of civil war reproduction fabrics…and the plastic is from a huge fabric store in Oregon during our family’s camping adventures in the summer of 2006.  I’m pretty sure I still have some of that plastic left in my stash :-).

Flashback Tuesday: Crop Circles

Quilt Therapy Posted on February 4, 2014 by TK HarrisonFebruary 3, 2014

There are many times I find, where the fabric is lovely on a quilt but the long-arm quilting “defines” the quilt and makes it even more special.  This is the case with this quilt image below. It is a basic layer cake (10″ squares of fabric) quilt…but, when my quilter put her magical spin on it, it totally made the quilt.  This was a quilt for my niece when she graduated from high school on 5/30/2009.  She has always been more involved in outside sports and fun than inside and she is not a girly-girl.  Hence, I chose this fabric because all of the outdoor colors are in the fabrics.  But, I could NOT have asked for a better long-arm quilt pattern than the crop circles – that totally screamed my niece (to me) and my quilter had no clue about her!

As I continue to say, I am a quilt designer and piecer, I consider myself advanced in those areas.  I leave the quilting up to my quilter as she always knows her craft better than I could ever imagine!

Flashback Tuesday: Funky Monkey Book Quilt

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 14, 2013 by TK HarrisonApril 13, 2015

We’ve all seen them – quilt panels that are to be made into a soft-for-baby book.  I just never enjoyed making those books – took even more time than a quilt and being the lazy quilter that I am, I prefer quick and easy quilts and quilt designs.

So, what to do when you have one of these book panels?

I can answer that!  Make a quilt out of them!

Here’s one I made a few years back out of a Sock Monkey panel:

And you don’t even have to reinvent the wheel!  This FREE pattern can be found on my BOMquilts.com website!

Quilt on!
