“Pendleton Inspired” Going Into the Home Stretch

Quilt Therapy Posted on January 9, 2014 by TK HarrisonJanuary 7, 2014

My “Pendleton Inspired” 2013 block of the month quilt at BOMquilts.com is nearing the end.  What a fun quilt to work on, and the fabric is so luscious!

Unfortunately, I got behind early in the game and it took a few months for me to catch up with my blocks.  But now?  All 12 of the blocks are completed, though the instructions for the final block will not be posted until January 22nd.

I have also put the entire quilt together and let me just say, it’s fanquiltastic!  It will definitely keep someone warm on a cold night, with the quilt to snuggle with and a delicious cup of hot cocoa.

Let me also take this time to thank the co-sponsors of this quilt – AbbiMays.com and Aurifil threads.  Go ahead, check out what they have to offer to show them some love!

Keep watching for Block 12 and the final instructions at BOMquilts.com – you never know, they may show up earlier than expected!

The 2014 block of the month quilt for 2014 at BOMquilts.com has been designed and is being perfected, tested and nearly ready to be listed so you can purchase your quilt fabric kits ahead of time and be ready to start with Block 1 in February!

AbbiMays.com is once again our fabric sponsor for the 2014 block of the month, and Aurifil threads has generously agreed to be our thread sponsor.

This is the luscious fabric that I have chosen for the 2014 block of the month quilt:

Free Patterns for Table Runners at BOMquilts.com

Quilt Therapy Posted on December 31, 2013 by TK HarrisonDecember 30, 2013

These are two beautiful table runners I designed and made in December, the free patterns for them can be found at BOMquilts.com.  Both of these table runners are sponsored by AbbiMays.com and I believe they still have kits available so you can make them for yourself or as gifts at any time – and have them to use or waiting as gifts the whole year long!

“Christmas Tree Joy” Table Runner

Made with “Joy” batiks from Timeless Treasures

This adorable table runner is actually on my own family’s dining room table right now and has received many compliments.  It went together so fast I actually had to go back to the pattern I’d written to make sure I made it correctly.  LOL

Hope you enjoy these quick and easy table runners for years to come!

Quilted December Updates – Hand Warmers

Quilt Therapy Posted on December 30, 2013 by TK HarrisonDecember 30, 2013

Ever since I started my “Quilt Therapy Countdown for Christmas”, my December quilt projects have to wait until after Christmas to talk about and showcase on my Quilt Therapy blog.  Sometimes, it’s REALLY, REALLY hard not to just slip in a blog post with something I have completed or something fun to read about.

But now, the wait is over!

Let me begin my December tales with the gifts I made for my girls’ teachers and for my MIL’s family Christmas.

These are hand warmers.  I was sitting with my husband one evening, just visiting about this and that…when I asked him if it was possible to make hand warmers with fabric and filled with rice.  He found no reason why it couldn’t be done so a plot was hatched to at least make those for our daughters’ teachers as Christmas gifts…and then it morphed into making about 35 pair for the family get together, too.

When, I mentioned my idea to my quilter and she did a search engine search and found a blog where there was a tutorial to make them!  I was flabbergasted that what I felt was an original idea 🙁

But, I followed my original idea and put them together with jelly roll fabric.  For ONE (1) hand warmer, I cut a 7″ strip from a jelly roll and then folded the fabric in half and sewed (zig-zag stitch) the two sides together.  Then, I filled it with three teaspoons of rice, closing the top at the sewing machine.  These all go together VERY quickly, hence the reason I was able to make them in just over an hour from start-to-finish.

Finally, I typed up some directions (30 seconds in the microwave) and strung them through with some thin crochet thread and tied a knot to secure them to the pairs of hand warmers.

Fun and very well received, too!

Confessions of a Quilting Hoarder

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 27, 2013 by TK HarrisonNovember 22, 2013

I posted a status update on my Facebook wall the other day, which read:  “I BELIEVE…if you are a quilter, you are a hoarder. Fabric, patterns, gadgets, etc. We hoard them all!”

The responses to my status post were from both ends of the spectrum and all in between.  Most of those who agreed with me, did it with glee.  There weren’t many quilters who disagreed with me, but some took exception to my use of the word ‘hoarders’ – by coming up with different terms, such as CURAtors or enthusiastic collectors.

No matter what you choose to call your quilt, quilt pattern and quilt gadget stash, you have to admit that it sure is nice to be able to go to your sewing room or studio and find the exact fabric you need for a project, all because you liked it and purchased it and saved it for just the right masterpiece.

I shall now present you with Exhibit A – a photo of one of the shelves with baskets that hold part of my quilt hoarding fabric collection:

I’m not ashamed of the quilt fabric hoarding that I have amassed over 30+ years of quilting…but, the only people outside of my family that I let into my quilt room are other quilters – because they understand what a quilt room is supposed to look like!

The only problem I’m currently encountering is where to put more quilt STUFF!  I have a small chest of drawers that we cleaning out of my son’s room and replaced with a larger chest of drawers (the smaller one has been his since he was born, so it has been way too small for his clothes for quite some time).  This smaller chest will go out to my quilt studio once it’s complete – but, I may have to start filling the drawers up in it now (blush) because there’s barely room to walk in my sewing room!
