Devil’s Claw Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Brown: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Brown: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ squares, and will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Brown: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, to create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. This will also be the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Brown 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Brown 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

I came visiting your site while browsing a link on FaveQuilts Piecing It Together and have enjoyed looking at all of your blocks! I am very interested in visiting your site often. Do you have a newsletter to sign up for or a way of sending information when you post a new block? Your recipes sound delicious also! Thank you for sharing so many treasures. Have a fabulous day!
Hi Brenda! Thanks for the compliment’s! I don’t have a newsletter but I add a new quilt block (or two) at least three days a week. Sometimes four, depending on what else I have going on. As for the recipe’s, they aren’t mine, but I do give credit to whom they belong to when I post them. Hope you had a great day, too! Come back & visit my blog as often as you’d like to! I never remove any of my blog posts (and if you look at the archives, you’ll figure that out for yourself, since they span from 2007 through today)!
I’m trying to do the kitchen sampler pattern, is there a way you can post how much fabric is needed for each block?
Hi Rachel! I apologize but I don’t have any idea how much fabric you’d need for each block. They’re meant to be scrappy so just pull whatever scraps you have & sew it together so each block shines!
