On Cloud Nine: Falling Leaves Quilt Block

Falling Leaves Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Falling Leaves Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Burnt Orange: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner per square.)
  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares.Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Orange 4 3/4″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 4 3/4″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create TWO (2) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner per square.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner per square.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank THREE (3) sides if the Orange 3 7/8″ squares. Once they’re sewn together with the results of the Orange 3 3/4″ squares they’ll create TWO (2) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Burnt Orange 5″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corners per square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Orange 5″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corners per square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 5″ squares which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corners per square,)

Heart Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 4 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 3/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. TWO (2) of these Half-Square Triangles are the upper left-hand & the upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. (These are paired with the Red/White Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 7″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 4 3/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. TWO (2) of these Half-Square Triangles are the upper left-hand & the upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. (These are the lower left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)

Posy Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 4″ x 7″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares. They’re also paired with some o the Snowball Corners.)
  • Green: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 3/8″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles. Which will create TWELVE (12) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corners are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. FOUR (4) other ones help make up the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles. (These are first paired with the Green 2 3/8″ squares. Which will create TWELVE (12) Snowball Corners. Then the FOUR (4) in the corner blocks are paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares. Meanwhile the FOUR (4) in the center are paired with the results of the White 6 3/8″ square.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Green 2 3/8″ x 2 3/4″ rectangles. They’re also paired with some of the the Snowball Corners.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Green Snowball Corners. They are also paired with the Yellow 4″ X 7″ rectangles.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/8″ squares. (These are paired on TWO (2) sides with the results of the Cerise 5 3/8″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White 8 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Cerise 4 3/4″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Cerise: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Pink 5 3/8″ squares. Then they’re flanked on ONE (1) other side by the results of the Cerise 5 3/8″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Cerise: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (FOUR (4) of these triangles are paired with the results of the Pink 5 3/8″ squares. The remaining FOUR (4) of these triangles are paired with the Pink 3 1/8″ squares. Once they’re sewn together they’ll flank the results of the White 8 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Cerise: Cut ONE (1) 5 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Cerise 4 3/4″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese in the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 8 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Pink 5 3/8″ squares + the results of the Cerise 5 3/8″ squares. Pieced Pinwheels Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut SIX (6) 3 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Jade 3 3/4″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Jade: Cut SIX (6) 3 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 3 3/4″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Jade: Cut SIX (6) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue/Jade Half-Square Triangles. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 7 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with all of the above Half-Square Triangles & the fabric cuts. Which will create the FOUR (4) Pieced Pinwheels.)
