Sneak Peek: Georgia Sunshine BOM Quilt

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 12, 2010 by TK HarrisonMarch 30, 2010

As you should know, Pat Sloan and I have become virtual best friends forever.  When I saw her latest fabric line, “Georgia”, I had to have it.  NOW.  Also, not only did I use all of Pat’s fabric line, I used the Aurifil thread (that she can’t stop talking about) that she loves to piece the quilt.  Not a single thread break during the entire piecing process – now, that’s quilt thread success!

Today, I show you my BOM design from that fabric line, one that I’m calling “Georgia Sunshine”:

The fabric kit for this quilt is available at www.AbbiMays.com.  This new FREE six-month original block of the month design has begun at www.BOMquilts.com!

Update on Two-Person Block Swap

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 11, 2010 by TK HarrisonMarch 8, 2010

I’ve made mention previously that a foster cousin and I were making quilts together.  Last weekend, I was able to sew Lori’s blocks and this weekend, I was able to cut out mine and sew them.  Lori is using the “Oh Cherry Oh” fabric line and I am using the “Crazy 8” fabric line.  Here our my blocks for both her quilt and mine:

Next, I’ll send the leftover fabrics and Lori’s blocks to her and she can draw on her own creative inspiration for six blocks for each of our quilts!  I’m excited – a new quilt made by and for a special person in my life!

Happy Ninth Birthday Baby Girl

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 10, 2010 by TK HarrisonMarch 8, 2010

It is with great sadness that I announce that our youngest daughter will be NINE today.  As the old cliche goes, where has the time gone?!

DD#3 is athletic, loving (when she wants to be), independent, demanding, very busy getting into everyone else’s business and helpful to a fault.  Some days, she says things that totally crack us up.  Other days, we’d just as soon she try to keep her lips together as nothing nice can come out of them.

I sure do wish I had the energy she has, though!  And I sure am glad our last surprise has been yet another delightful form of entertainment for our family.

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

Fabric Bowl

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 9, 2010 by TK HarrisonMarch 8, 2010

Our local quilt group has a new member, whom we call Longarm Michelle (because she is the only one in our bunch who has a longarm!), who gave us a great tutorial on how to make fabric bowls last month in our meeting.  Here are some of the fabric bowls that Longarm Michelle has made:

Aren’t they cool?  For our quilt group, Michelle went way over-board.  She purchased the clothesline rope that we would need, she got a bunch of honey buns from me (and bought some herself), sewed six honey buns together, made biased tape out of each honey bun string, sewed half of the honey bun to each of our clothesline ropes as an example AND she bought us all this cool pair of medical tweezers that has little claws on the end (this helps hold your fabric together while you sew it onto the clothesline rope).  What generosity!

Because my poor blistered hands weren’t cooperating on Saturday, I decided to just take what Longarm Michelle had done and create a mini-fabric bowl out of it.  The rest of the rope and honey bun will have to wait for another time when my hands aren’t in a mutiny with my ambitions.

Here’s what my completed mini-fabric bowl looks like (and yes, if you noticed, I used a lighter thread on purpose so I could see what I was doing and where my mistakes may be):
