Hand-Written Quilt Labels

Quilt Therapy Posted on January 24, 2014 by TK HarrisonJanuary 20, 2014

While I have used lovely embroidered quilt labels from two of my quilty friends, sometimes I just feel like a label should be hand-written.  In this instance, I created two baby quilt labels, both hand-written.  And let me tell you, this is NOT an easy thing for me to do.  Ever since I had the third lesion and was diagnosed with MS, my handwriting is awful.  The lesion was in a place in my brain that controls everything on my right side and it has not totally fixed itself yet.  But, I do the best I can and pray that the recipients understand!

Virtual Friendships and Quilting

Quilt Therapy Posted on January 22, 2014 by TK HarrisonJanuary 20, 2014

I virtually met Donna Schwartz Mills at least 10 years ago, if not more.  She has a daughter who was a year younger than our oldest daughter and we exchanged both phone calls and emails quite often, when we first met.  She was also instrumental in helping us find a bit of history and fun in Sacramento during our family’s camping adventures on the west coast in 2006.  I worked with her, way back when, to sell advertising for her home-based business website.

Her daughter is graduating this year and I asked Donna if I could make her daughter a quilt.  Who can turn down a quilt?!  Donna was excited about the possibility and asked her daughter for color combinations that she likes.  The only other thing I had to work with was that her daughter’s middle name is Rose…but her daughter does NOT like pink so it is a little difficult to find roses on fabrics that aren’t reds and pink.  But, I took my daughters and I to our local quilt shop and almost immediately found a beige fabric with blue roses on it!  Then came choosing other fabrics to use in the quilt – and I relied on my teenage daughter to help me with a yeah or no way as I was cruising through the bolts of fabric.  Of note, we chose complimentary fabrics and not coordinating fabrics from the same line of the fabrics that were designed to go together from the same fabric designer’s colorway.

We finally settled on the fabrics you see below – and I am a firm believer in the fact that these fabrics will make a wonderful quilt for my virtual friend’s daughter’s graduation!

Flashback Tuesday: Hart Bunny Quilted Wall Hanging

Quilt Therapy Posted on January 8, 2014 by TK HarrisonJanuary 7, 2014

I designed and made these Easter Bunny wall hangings in 2009.  They are absolutely adorable and instead of using them for wall hangings, I’ve been known to just use them as table toppers when we have our family Easter meal.  A fun and festive way to enjoy Easter!

Electric Seam Ripper

Quilt Therapy Posted on January 7, 2014 by TK HarrisonJanuary 6, 2014

One of the gifts I received from Linda at AbbiMays.com this Christmas was this Galaxy Notions electric seam ripper.

I have to tell you, I considered sewing something and then ripping it out with this gadget, but I refrained from doing so.  Then yesterday morning, I was binding a quilt and realized I’d put the silly thing on backwards!  So, without further ado, I now had a reason to break out this seam ripper and WHOA!  Amazing little gadget – and now one of my precious ones in my “must have’ basket of quilt needs.  I will tell you that it did not like to rip out back-stitched areas of my quilt…but, once I manually ripped those out, this little tool went to work and I can tell you I have never had so much fun!  🙂

After I received mine, I purchased two more for special women on my Christmas list.

If you do not have one, you NEED one!  Go to AbbiMays.com right now and order your own.  You will fall in love with this modern miracle for ripping out seams!!!

Free Patterns for Table Runners at BOMquilts.com

Quilt Therapy Posted on December 31, 2013 by TK HarrisonDecember 30, 2013

These are two beautiful table runners I designed and made in December, the free patterns for them can be found at BOMquilts.com.  Both of these table runners are sponsored by AbbiMays.com and I believe they still have kits available so you can make them for yourself or as gifts at any time – and have them to use or waiting as gifts the whole year long!

Subtle Skies Table Runner

“Subtle Skies” Table Runner

Made with “Subtle Skies” Quilt Fabric designed by Faye Burgos for Marcus Fabrics

ChristmasTreeTableRunner

“Christmas Tree Joy” Table Runner

Made with “Joy” batiks from Timeless Treasures

This adorable table runner is actually on my own family’s dining room table right now and has received many compliments.  It went together so fast I actually had to go back to the pattern I’d written to make sure I made it correctly.  LOL

Hope you enjoy these quick and easy table runners for years to come!
