Friday Funday: Scrappy Christmas Stockings

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 21, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 17, 2014

It’s never too early to start planning for Christmas – well, except when the stores begin putting out their wares before Halloween!  I designed these miniature scrappy Christmas stockings out of Jelly Roll strips:

Holly Jolly Gift Christmas Stockings
Free Pattern from BOMquilts.com!

The pattern can easily be adapted to make larger Christmas stockings and they are SEW EASY to put together!  I may even revisit my Christmas Jelly Roll stash and make these small ones for our family’s 2014 Christmas – and stash a little bit of candy, a gift card or a lump of coal in each one!  🙂

Grungy Quilted Lovie

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 7, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 2, 2014

To go along with my post yesterday, I have completed a Military Veteran’s (charity) quilt for February as well as the LWR quilt.  Although I am just a bit behind, I also put together a Quilted Lovie top this evening!  Will get it ready to quilt in the next couple of days.  LOVE it!

Quilted Lovies are so special to those I have given them to!

Stash Busting for a Gift

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 4, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 2, 2014

Choosing fabric from my stash to match a Jelly’s roll that found its way into my shopping cart last week.  Putting together some birthday gifts for a special person.  Her favorite color is blue so this Jelly and the accompanying fabric should give her something to do when she’s stuck inside because of the weather!

Is it called re-gifting when I give someone a special gift from my stash?

Shhh, I’m Hiding from the Quilt Police!

Quilt Therapy Posted on February 27, 2014 by TK HarrisonFebruary 27, 2014

No sir officers, I have absolutely NO idea how these two mini-jellies ended up in my shopping cart.  I did pay for them, but how did they get in my cart?  Do you have an undercover fabric-basket-filler who patrols the craft store, tossing random jellies into people’s carts?  I smell a conspiracy!!!

Virtual Friendships and Quilting

Quilt Therapy Posted on January 22, 2014 by TK HarrisonJanuary 20, 2014

I virtually met Donna Schwartz Mills at least 10 years ago, if not more.  She has a daughter who was a year younger than our oldest daughter and we exchanged both phone calls and emails quite often, when we first met.  She was also instrumental in helping us find a bit of history and fun in Sacramento during our family’s camping adventures on the west coast in 2006.  I worked with her, way back when, to sell advertising for her home-based business website.

Her daughter is graduating this year and I asked Donna if I could make her daughter a quilt.  Who can turn down a quilt?!  Donna was excited about the possibility and asked her daughter for color combinations that she likes.  The only other thing I had to work with was that her daughter’s middle name is Rose…but her daughter does NOT like pink so it is a little difficult to find roses on fabrics that aren’t reds and pink.  But, I took my daughters and I to our local quilt shop and almost immediately found a beige fabric with blue roses on it!  Then came choosing other fabrics to use in the quilt – and I relied on my teenage daughter to help me with a yeah or no way as I was cruising through the bolts of fabric.  Of note, we chose complimentary fabrics and not coordinating fabrics from the same line of the fabrics that were designed to go together from the same fabric designer’s colorway.

We finally settled on the fabrics you see below – and I am a firm believer in the fact that these fabrics will make a wonderful quilt for my virtual friend’s daughter’s graduation!

How far ahead do you plan your quilt projects?
