Proud Mommy Moment

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 3, 2008 by TK HarrisonNovember 3, 2008

Our 3 younger children attend a class at our church on Wednesdays called Sacred Arts.  The teacher of the class is our church music director, and my kids *love* participating.  They learn different ways of expressing their faith with music, singing, bells, ASL, puppets, liturgical dance, etc.  They also do crafts and play games, related to whatever message they are learning that week.  It’s creative, it’s imaginative and it’s a way for kids to know that they can praise God through the use of many talents that involve more than just singing a song.

A week ago, they performed ASL to a song, and I captured them on film:

The aunt to the youngest child in this next video captured them on her video camera, and here is their performance:

I am so tickled for them, when they perform at church – a proud mommy moment indeed!

Another Reason why I Love Small Town, America!

Quilt Therapy Posted on October 14, 2008 by TK HarrisonOctober 14, 2008

Today is picture day for the girls at school.  They were flitting and fluttering around the house last night, getting their clothes organized and trying to decide what jewelry to wear, how to fix their hair, etc. etc.  It was girlie-central, for sure!  Thank goodness the boys were gone to a Cub Scout meeting.

Last night, I asked JD to call the school in the morning, to see if our homeschooled son could get his photos taken, too.  The school that the big girls attended in Utah let us bring the two little ones over on picture day, so I could have photos that were all the same background for all four kids.  It’s nice to be able to have the same photograph formats for all four kids – especially at holiday card time!

So, by the time the dad-person woke me up this morning, he and the son-man were already dressed up and ready to head to the school – they were happy to accomodate us and got the manly-man in for pictures immediately!

He is normally very photogenic:

Though, the dad-person tells me that his smile in this year’s photos will look more like this:

Not a problem!  I’ll have much more fun with the photos when the kids get older.  Is always good to have something to blackmail them with when…say, their first date comes to the house!

The Invasion of GHOSTIES … wooooooo

Quilt Therapy Posted on October 8, 2008 by TK HarrisonOctober 8, 2008

The girls locked themselves in their room the other afternoon, working on some secret project that parents weren’t allowed to know about.  JD left the house to head to Scouts, and stopped by my office shed to tell me goodbye.  Between the time that he left the house … and I went home (no more than 5 minutes elapsed) … our house had been invaded by this secret project … which turned out to be GHOSTIES!

They also hid one in our medicine cabinet – which … ummmm, dare I say scared their dad the next morning?!!

A Sweet Treat from Boca Beth

Quilt Therapy Posted on September 25, 2008 by TK HarrisonSeptember 25, 2008

I’ve spoke before of some of the wonderful clients that I have.  In this virtual world that I work, it’s not uncommon to find that some folks just have a hard time working with someone who may be 1000 miles away, and with whom they’ve never met.

But, there are a few who have learned that being virtual is far less expensive than having an employee, I’m far more productive because I don’t have a bunch of daily office interruptions and I’m far more focused because it’s just me, my computer and the work they send me.

Boca Beth is one of those sweet people you just want to hug.  Daily.  She’s kind to me, pays me on time (and sometimes ahead of time, if I’m in need of funds) and she is just a joy to work with.

I think I’ve worked with Beth, in one capacity or another, for about five or six years.  In that time, she’s not only shared her wonderful products with me…I must tell you that my kids (especially the two younger ones) have grown up listening to her sing in Spanish & English – and it’s truly given them a solid foundation of a second language that I could never have done alone.  I used her CDs while homeschooling, too, and every one of the kids would stop what they were doing to come and sing and dance with Boca and Beth.

And on Monday, I got a sweet surprise in my mailbox, from Ms. Beth and Boca:

Can you see them?  It’s a Boca Beth Mini-Maraca and some little M&M’s that Beth had printed with her business name and with her image!  Here’s a closer look:

Don’t that just beat all?!!!  If you want to read more from Boca Beth, visit her website at www.bocabeth.com or visit her blog at www.bocabeth.net.

Lunch Talk

Quilt Therapy Posted on September 15, 2008 by TK HarrisonSeptember 16, 2008

I don’t even know where the topic came from, but it had to have been somewhere in left field.

As we’re sitting around the lunch table after church yesterday, the dad-person said something about molasses.

Son-man asked dad what molasses was made of.

Dad-person responded, “Well, you know what a mole is, right?”
