Easter Monday

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 13, 2009 by TK HarrisonApril 13, 2009

As the sugar high resumes, the kids are out of school today and we’re being party poopers by making them clean their rooms.  Oy the tears and sorrow of the inevitable after a weekend of fun and games!

This one here has a funny story with it – Pastor Jim came out to celebrate an Easter feast with us, after church.  We got him all set up on the porch to watch the kids in action, as they searched the yard for eggs.  As I was walking around, taking some photos of the adventures, Pr. Jim *mentioned* to me that it wouldn’t hurt me to bend over a “find” a few eggs for him, too.  hehe  Love me an 85 year-old kid at heart!

Random Life

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 9, 2009 by TK HarrisonApril 9, 2009

I still haven’t finished documenting our spring break adventures – have one more museum visit to tell about.  Way too many other things that have been important to get down on paper else I forget them!

I did, however, get the next three Dash game patterns designed and the patterns written this week – woot!  One is due later this month, but the other two are due as DD#2 and I will be getting our ducks in a row to head to Missouri for my niece’s graduation at the end of May…so, I wanted to be ready so I didn’t have to write the patterns at the last minute, taking a chance that I’d make a mistake on them.  Here’s photos of two of the quilts I’ve designed – the first for April’s Quilt Dash (www.QuiltDash.com) and the second for May’s Quilt Block Dash (www.QuiltBlockDash.com) … I can’t show you the third one because it’s a mystery quilt for Mystery Quilt Dash (www.MysteryQuiltDash.com)!

Click on the quilt photos to join either of our Dash games – it’s fun, a great way to find new shops and designers you may not have heard of before … and you get FREE quilt patterns to boot!

Last night, DD#2 had to dye eggs for a class party today, and DD#3 and I spent time making cookies for a party in her class today.  Today, we continue with our Holy Week activities with Maundy Thursday services and a quiet reverance to the beginning of the end for Jesus…not to mention some doctor’s appointments thrown in for my husband, at least one trip to the grocery store and many, many eggs to dye for our family fun.  And then JD’s family that will be joining us tomorrow evening…then Pastor Stone is coming out to share in our Easter feast celebration.  Counting our blessings!

Easter’s Grace is FREE!

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 8, 2009 by TK HarrisonApril 7, 2009

Although All Saint’s Day in November is the time when some recognize the deaths of those who have gone before us, I choose to do so between Palm Sunday and Easter.  It’s not morbid, to me, because I *know* where my loved ones are!  And were it not for Jesus dying on the cross, I couldn’t be so humble (and joyous) about what happens to their/our souls after death.

I’d like to take just a minute to say the first things that comes to mind about some of my family & friends who have passed on, to sit at the right hand of God the Father.  And to just remember the reason they live on forever is because of one miraculous Man who gave His life for all of us:

  1. Jamie (baby brother) – I don’t remember you, but I do remember your death.  It was the beginning of the end for our mother.
  2. Dad – Your death tore our world apart in so many ways.  I wish you hadn’t suffered for 6 months, but those you left behind have suffered for a lifetime.
  3. Mom – Your death made 5 children orphans.  I forgave you when I was confirmed.   Thank you for giving me life.
  4. Christy (foster sister) – Your death was hard, as you were younger than I was and I slept in the room where your funeral dress laid on your bed for a month before you passed.  It was horrendous on your parents, and I moved away from their home because of their grief as I felt I was a hinderance in their lives.
  5. Grandma S. – You died without an apology from my sibling, even though you begged me to help you understand her actions.  I hope you have found it to forgive her, now, though it broke your heart then.
  6. Gramma from Tramma – You were my rock.  The one who loved me unconditionally my entire life.  I thank you for allowing me to be your favorite.  I am blessed, to this day, because of that love.
  7. Grandpa H. – “now that’s”
  8. Mike (older brother) – I thank you for being my brother and I miss you every single day – especially when my son shows some of the tendencies that you had as a child – watching cartoons all day long, trying to get out of doing chores, giggling over the goofy antics of his sisters and buying him husky jeans.  So far, though, he still has all of his hair!
  9. Tom (FIL) – I thank you for being such a wonderful father to my husband – as he’s been trained well in how to be a man, a husband and a father.
  10. Grandmother (GMIL) – I was blessed to be the only person to see you take your last breath – it was a “God moment” and I didn’t share it with anyone because I felt compelled to just watch in awe.  What peace and joy I found from your gracious exit – and the legacy of a very long and happy life to share with our children.

There are more, of course, who have been in and out of my life…but, these 10 listed have been the ones who changed the course of my life in the most profound ways.

And for these losses, I will await the clearing of the altar and silently exit the church on Maundy Thursday.  I will sing songs of praise, with the help of the angels above, on Good Friday.  And on Easter, oh joy, I will kiss my family and hug those around me with words that I’ve said over and over again through the years:  HE IS RISEN!  HE IS RISEN INDEED!  Thanks be to God!

Holy Week is Upon Us

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 7, 2009 by TK HarrisonApril 6, 2009

As I type this message, I feel God’s grace all around me.  Our Holy Week began yesterday, with Palm Sunday.  The kids in the church took palms and graced us with their presence as they delightfully waved their palms in and out of the aisles in church – costumed in period-style clothing.  They were the innocents for whom God’s grace is awaiting them.  They are love, in its pure and simplest form.

And when I returned home, I was graced with a red-bud explosion – an early sign of spring….of hope for warmer days and sunshine that beams down from the heavens above.

May you celebrate Holy Week in your own way, and know that God’s grace is free and a way to everlasting life with Him.

Spring Break Continued: Photographic Meerkat Fun

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 1, 2009 by TK HarrisonMarch 31, 2009

This meerkat was at the Cameron Park Zoo when we were there during spring break, and I got such a kick out of its MODELING techniques!  It was truly playing to the camera!
