Providence Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 5/8″ square. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These squares are paired with the White/Blue Half-Square Triangles.)
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 3 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Green 2 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles.)
- Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Red 3 5/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Green 3 1/4″ squares.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles. They’re also paired with the Green 2 1/4″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 1/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the Red 2 7/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Providence Star Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
