Log Cabin Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Tan: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ square. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the White 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side by the White 1 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. It’s the “chimney” on top of the “Log Cabin” house & is found in the top row of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This triangle’s flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Green 6 1/4″ square & on ONE (1) other side by the Blue 3″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle. This triangle’s part of the “roof” of the “Log Cabin” house.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Blue 3 3/8″ square. This rectangle’s part of the “roof” of the “Log Cabin” house.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This triangle will be flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the White 3 3/8″ square & on the other side by the results of the Blue 3 3/8″ square. This is the “gable” on the “roof” of the “Log Cabin” house.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle. (This is flanked by the Tan 2″ square & is the left-hand corner of the top row of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. (This is flanked by the Tan 2″ square & is the right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Gray 3 1/2″ x 8″ rectangle. And it’s flanked on ONE (1) side by the Gray 3 1/2″ x 8″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side it’s flanked by the Gray 5″ x 8″ rectangle. It’s the “window” of the “Log Cabin” house.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 8″ rectangle. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the Gray 2″ x 8″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side it’s flanked by the Gray 3 1/2″ x 8″ rectangle. It’s the “door” to the “Log Cabin” house.)
- Gray: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 5″ rectangle. (This is paired with the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle. And it’s flanked on ONE (1) side by the Gray 3 1/2″ x 8″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side it’s flanked by the Gray 5″ x 8″ rectangle. It’s the part of the “Log Cabin” house that’s under the “window”.)
- Gray: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 8″ rectangle. (This is flanked by the White 2″ x 8″ rectangle. It’s also the left-hand side of the “Log Cabin” quilt block.)
- Gray: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ x 8″ rectangle. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the White 2″ x 8″ rectangle. On ONE (1) other side it’s flanked by the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle & the Gray 2″ x 5″ rectangle. It’s part of the “Log Cabin” house.)
- Gray: Cut ONE (1) 5″ x 8″ rectangle. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle & the Gray 2″ x 5″ rectangle. It’s also the right-hand side of the “Log Cabin” quilt block.)
- Gray: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle. (This is below the “roof” of the “Log Cabin” & above the “Log Cabin” itself.)
