Happy New Year Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Gold: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’ll be flanked by the results of the Black 5 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Gold: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Black 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. Then they’re flanked by the results of the Gold 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Gold: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Gold 2 7/8″ squares & the results of the Black 3 1/4″ squares. Plus the Black 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. All of which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
- Black: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Gold 2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re flanked by the results of the Gold 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Black: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Black
1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles & the results of the Gold 2 7/8″ squares. Then they’ll be flanked by the results of the Gold 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.) - Black: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Gold 4 1/2″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. They’ll be paired withe the Black 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles & the results of the Black 3 1/4″ squares.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Gold 5 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
