Birds on the Tracks Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut TEN (10) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White
1 7/8″ squares which will create FORTY (40) Flying Geese.) - White: Cut FORTY (40) 1 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Blue
3 1/4″ squares which will create FORTY (40) Flying Geese.) - White: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 1 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired on ONE (1) side the Blue/White Flying Geese. They’ll also be paired on ONE (1) other side with the White 1 7/8″ x
7 5/8″ rectangles.) - White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Blue 1 7/8″ squares where they meet in the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired on ONE (1) end with the White 1 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired on ONE (1) other end with the Blue 1 7/8″ square in the center of this quilt block.)
