Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are first paired with the results of the Rust 2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the Maze 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’re also the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. Then they’re paired with the results of the Tan 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew it together.)
- Rust: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are first paired with the results of the yellow 2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the Maze 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’re also the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Maze: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the combination of the results of the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares, as well as the results of the Rust 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Tan: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow 5 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Yellow 5 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the results of the Tan 4 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
