Homegrown Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Light Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Yellow 4″ square, as well as the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares on ONE (1) side. On the other side they will flank the Light Green 2 3/4″ squares, as well as the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (ONE (1) side of each of these triangles will flank the White 4 3/4″ square, the other sides will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares as well as the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ square, and on the other side by the results of the Green 7 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides by the results of the Green 7 1/4″ square, it will also be the center, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank TWO (2) sides of the Light Green 2 3/4″ squares, they will also flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Homegrown Star Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Homegrown Star Variation Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Light Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block, it’s also the center of the Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Purple 4″ square, as well as the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (TWO (2) sides of these will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares, while the other TWO(2) sides will flank the Pink 2 3/4″ squares and results of the White 4 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Purple 4″ squares and the remaining TWO (2) sides will be the corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Pink 4 3/4″ square which will create the Square in a Square, as well as being the center of this quilt block, as needed for this quilt block.)
