Quilted Kitchen: Ribbon Quilt Block & Red Ribbon Pound Cake

Ribbon Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Ribbon Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. TWO (2) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the lower left- & right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White 6 1/2″ square, which will partially create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This triangle will be flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ square, which will create ONE (1) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles will be flanked by the results of the Purple 3 7/8″ square & they’ll also be flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ square. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle. (This rectangle’s paired with the Purple/White Flying Geese on ONE (1) side & it’s also paired with the White/Purple Flying Geese one ONE (1) other side. In addition it’s paired with TWO (2) of the Half-Square Triangles on the TWO (2) remaining sides. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Purple 6 1/2″ square, which will create ONE (1) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. TWO (2) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the lower left- & right-hand corners of this quilt block)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the Purple 6 1/2″ triangles which will partially create TWO (2) Flying Geese. They’ll also be the upper left & right hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This triangle will be flanked by the results of the Purple 3 7/8″ square, which will create ONE (1) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Mint Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Mint Green: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block when sewn together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Dk. Green/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Yellow 2″ squares, plus they’re paired with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the Yellow 3 1/2″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the Yellow 2″ squares & the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the Red 3 7/8″ squares. Finally they’re paired with the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
    2 3/8″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Yellow 2″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares. Plus they’re paired with the results of the Red 3 7/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Yellow 2″ x
    3 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Yellow 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

(These will flank the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. They’ll also be paired with the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. Only THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles are needed to sew this quilt block together. ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. Only ONE (1) of these triangles is needed to sew this quilt block together. (This triangle is sandwiched between the Yellow/White Half-Square Triangles that’s not the corner Half-Square Triangle.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. Only ONE (1) of these triangles is needed for to sew this quilt block together. (This triangle is paired with the results of the White 6 7/8″ square.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 1 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 1 1/4″ x 8 1/4″ rectangle. Which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. ONE (1) of these Snowball Corners is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/4″ x 8 1/4″ rectangle. (This is the “Stem” of the “Easter Lily” flower. It’s paired with the Green 1 3/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 3/8″ square. (This is paired with the White 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are the “Large Leaves” of the “Easter Lily” flower. They’re paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles & they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles. They’re also paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. Only THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles are needed to sew this quilt block together. ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles will flank the Yellow/White Half-Square Triangles that isn’t the Half-Square Triangle that’s in the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. ONE (1) of these triangles is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. Another ONE (1) is the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired on both sides with the Green 1 1/4″ x 8 1/4″ rectangle as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Yellow 6 7/8″ square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
