Quilted Kitchen: State Fair Quilt Block & Funnel Cake Recipe

State Fair Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

State Fair Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Split Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares & with the White 2 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These will be flanked on the left & right sides by the results of the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares. They’ll also be paired with the results of the Aqua
    5 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Aqua 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Split Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the Pink 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles, on the left-hand side TWO (2) times, as needed for this quilt block.

  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ x 5 1/4″ rectangles. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Tan 3 1/4″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Light Pink: Cut TWO (2) 6 1/2″ squares. (These will be the lower left-hand corner & the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Red 3 7/8″ squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Pink: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Red
    3 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Dark Pink 3 1/2″ squares on one side & the Dark Pink 2 1/2″ squares on the opposite side. As needed for this quilt block.)

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.
  • Teal: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ x 4 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
