Houston Quilt Market 2011: Gina Reddin with Splinters & Threads

I have known Gina virtually for a number of years, and in person for the past five years.  She always has a smile and is just one of those people who is very excited and thankful to have the opportunity to fulfill her quilting and embroidery passions as a career.  She owns Splinters & Threads, an online shop where she sells a number of items, but most importantly, she designs beautiful machine embroidery that can be used in OH SEW many different ways!

Although I made it around Quilt Market mostly in a day, I don’t want to bore you….so, today, we shall take a little break from the fun as there are many folks who will be enjoying Quilt Festival throughout the weekend.

First, have quilt will travel!  This is the quilt my third foster mother made for me, and I sadly left my normal, battered and tattered travel quilt at home to give me the opportunity to travel with some quilted love:

And now, let’s sit back….put our feet up….and enjoy a delicious glass of Quilt Market citrus Sangria!  Ole!

Houston Quilt Market 2011: Textures and Colors

I am always mesmerized by fabric textures and colors.  While walking around the convention center, there were not only the colors and textures of the products that caught my eye, but how the vendors showcased their products.  Definitely sensory overload, but so worthy of photos and memories to share:

We just happened to be cruising down the aisles at the convention center, and I realized I was looking at Ty Pennington.  Yes, THAT Ty Pennington.  The “Extreme Home Makeover” Ty Pennington!  I just casually snapped this photograph of him as we went by:

Then, we went around the corner and I saw my friend Gina Reddin (https://www.SplintersAndThreads.com) in her booth and told her Ty was in the next row over and she nearly hurt herself getting out of her booth and grabbing her camera.  She HAD to have a photo with him!  I went around the corner with her and somehow cracked both of them up and took this pix:

Ty has a few fabric lines sold through Free Spirit Fabrics and he was at Quilt Market showcasing his ties and making his presence known.  Then, his assistant offered us one of his fabric catalogs and he autographed them for us!

Now, if any of you can decipher what he said, I’d appreciate it! 🙂

Houston Quilt Market 2011: Kathryn Rister

She used to be a school teacher, so I have to watch my P’s and Q’s and cannot make myself call her anything but Ms. Kathryn. 🙂

Ms. Kathryn’s Artistic Laser Designs are DA BOMB!  I have to say that of all of the products, designs and gadgets offered at Quilt Market this year, these laser designs are one of the top five on my list of the best products offered.  If you have a quilt shop, you NEED these products to offer to your customers.  If you are a quilter, you NEED to just bask in the beautiful designs and showmanship of these laser-cut appliques.
