Bastrop Charity Quilt #1

Quilt Therapy Posted on September 12, 2011 by TK HarrisonSeptember 12, 2011

One of my Girl Scout moms emailed me that her brother and his family lost everything in Bastrop in the fires this summer.  My heart goes out to them, especially their children, who probably knew no other home.  A home that is no longer there.  In a place that is still smoldering, so they cannot get in to see if there is anything left.

Prayers of renewal and strength have gone out to many folks, but I always feel a special kindred spirit with my Girl Scout families.  Heck, I still have connections with my Girl Scout girls and/or parents from 10 years ago, in a state 1500 miles away!

This family has a six-year-old daughter and an 18-month-old son.  I can’t leave them without a bit of quilted love, so I made one quilt over the weekend and hope to finish the other tonight.  Here is the first quilt, designed especially for a kindergartner:

Texas Fires Rage

Quilt Therapy Posted on September 6, 2011 by TK HarrisonSeptember 6, 2011

As many of you know, we live in Texas.  Luckily for us, we are not in the areas that have recently been affected by the raging fires on our parched lands:

In this photo, note the town of Kerrville at the very bottom of the image – we are located about 30 miles SOUTH of that town, in the hills.  The fires you see seem to be close, but they are all about 2 hours away from us.

In this last photo, the shading represents what has already burned and the direction the fires are going.

And this is a photo of the fire that hit the town of Bastrop, Texas this past weekend.  It has destroyed around 500 homes, but thus far, no deaths have been reported.

All prayers welcome for those who are living where these fires have struck!
