Happy Birthday Baby Girl
She’s 8, she’s 8 – our baby girl is 8 today! And lest ANYONE forget it, she’ll remind you. In fact, she’s been reminding people for weeks!!!
I have to go make no-bake cornflake peanut butter cookies to take to her class, then we have to attend the “Star Student” ceremony, as DD#2 has been chosen as this month’s star student for her fifth grade class. Once done, I may have a minute or two to collect myself before I have to start cooking her BIRTHDAY dinner (smoked pork chops, macaroni & cheese, green beans, rolls) and somewhere in there, I have to whip up a batch of brownies, then frost and decorate them! I feel like the Mad Hatter with so many places to go and be and whoa … will I get my head chopped off if I forget something??!!
My baby is 8 today! I don’t know whether to celebrate her milestones or sit in the corner and cry over her disappearing childhood!
“Fireproof”
I finally took the time to purchase and watch “Fireproof” with my husband last night. It was interesting and heartwarming. The trash can scenes hit home, as hubby has a tendency to take out his frustrations on trash cans, too. 😉
But, quite honestly, we’ve never had any of the issues that the movie spoke of. Love, honor and cherish until death do us part – through good times and bad. That’s always been the mantra of our marriage – as well as the saying “specificity is the key to effective communication.” And God has always been with us, through the ups and downs and joys and sorrows. It was good, though, to see that our “ways” aren’t far off from those that the movie suggested were what made successful marriages. I certainly didn’t marry for money, but for love – as that was the one thing missing IMO throughout most of my life.Â
I won’t say we haven’t had our moments, nor will I say that we have the perfect marriage. But, we have God and love – and with those two things, always at the forefront of our lives, I think we have the basic bones for longevity.
And even though we’ve been married nearly 17 years, I still get a little tingle in my tummy when I see him walk across a crowded room toward me…or see him searching for me in church, when he’s been late teaching his Sunday School class, or just walking into the house after a long day in my office shed and having him waiting to open the front door for me.
