Masquerade Masks

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 14, 2008 by TK HarrisonMay 14, 2008

The theme of the eighth-grade dance, that was hosted by the seventh-graders, at my girls’ school was Masquerade.  Since I have a seventh-grader, I was one of the moms to help plan the event – and it was held last Friday evening at the school social center.  Since the school ends at eighth grade, there’s a big ta-doo about the graduating eighth-graders, with this dinner and dance being the social event of the year – outside of the upcoming graduation.

The art teacher at the school was in charge of creating masks for all of the eighth-graders, trying to fit their personalities with some type of bird.  I don’t know the kids very well, but I think the masks were outstanding – filled with colors, glitters and unbelievable character.

Not to be outdone by my creative daughter #1, she made masks for her siblings yesterday:

Mary’s Elf

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 13, 2008 by TK HarrisonMay 13, 2008

When I opened the fabric panels that came with the luscious Christmas fabric I received last week, I was just tickled RED to see the panel that Mary Engelbreit included in her fabric line.

It’s not the main character in her fabric panel, but it sure made me smile with the delight of a child, to see an elf having so much holiday fun!  I can’t wait to start working on this new quilt design!

Mother’s Day with Bling

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 12, 2008 by TK HarrisonMay 12, 2008

In years gone by, I’ve rarely received a Mother’s Day gift from my children.  Nine times out of ten, I was involved in the Mother’s Day gift-making (at schools and scouts), so my kids always gave their gifts to their grandmas.  Woe is me.

But, not this year!  Ms. Judy, the Sacred Arts teacher at church for the 3 youngest kids, told the kids that they WERE making gifts for their mom this year.  Isn’t it lovely to have someone in your corner!  Yesterday, I opened my gifts – and look what beautiful bracelets they made me!  And yes, I wore all three of them to church.

Then, we came home and I made lunch for the family and MIL, and then took a great nap.  Oh, and my sweetie blessed me with another fave — a giant chocolate bar with almonds!  woot, am I a special mom or what?!

Gearing up for the BOMquilts.com Christmas in July Celebration!

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 8, 2008 by TK HarrisonMay 8, 2008

When I told folks that I received a box of the new 2008 Christmas fabric in the mail yesterday, they cringed…not even wanting to hear about it.  Christmas is too far away, yaknow.

For me, though, I’m all a-twitter, thinking about the possibilities of this grand upcoming holiday, and all of the quilting that I’ll need to do between now and then!  And the fabrics – oh my!  The colors of each remind me of days gone by.  For me, especially, since I grew up in so many different foster homes, the Christmas’ were as varied as the decor in each household!

If you can’t find me, you can bet I’m having way too much fun in my sewing room!  Here’s the soon-to-be released fabrics, courtesy of AbbiMays.com, that I’ll be designing patterns for in the coming months:

Mary Had a Little Quilt

Quilt Therapy Posted on May 6, 2008 by TK HarrisonMay 6, 2008

I had to do it.  I had to wade through the piles of fabric and ironing to get to my sewing room.  Friday evening, I put all of my to-be-pieced fabric together and decided what to work on.  I had planned to piece with the new Prairie Paisley fabric.  I also had a design running through my head for some of the Yoshiko fat quarters that I’d been hanging onto.

But, what caught my attention was Mary Engelbreit’s Friends and Flowers jelly roll:

The love of the fabric.  Little muted shades of red, blue, yellow and green dancing before my eyes.  The feel of the cotton between my fingers.  I’m sure it was love at first sight!

Here’s what I’ve designed, another baby quilt sure to please any mini-dribbler on your next quilting gift list:
