Repurposing Clothes for Quilts
I received an email a few months ago from a lovely lady who inspired me. Ah yes, one can still find inspiration, in quilting, from others…if only you choose to be open to new ideas!
She explained about how she and her sister used to re-purpose thrift store clothing to make new clothes – baby clothes, children’s clothes and adult clothes. She sort of challenged me to see if I could create a quilt with thrift store clothing.
One Saturday, two of my daughters and I had nothing better to do so we decided to take on this challenge. And when I say “we”, it’s a bit nefarious. LOL They did help me pick out clothes that could potentially be used but that’s about where their help would end…unless they are around the house when I finally have the time to put this fun challenge quilt together.
Here is the stack of gently used thrift store clothing I chose:
No rhyme or reason to the colors as my only stipulation was that they had to be 100% cotton. It’ll be FUN to see how this quilt, made from re-purposed clothes, will come together. I’m excited for the challenge! Will keep you updated as the quilt begins to take shape, both in my mind and then as I sew it all together!
