Special Delayed Mother’s Day
I took the time to go to Nebraska this past weekend for my sista-cuz’s wedding. Her folks are my aunt and uncle and they were the ones who finished raising me. This sista-cuz was born about six months after I moved in with them, so she was basically joined at my hip all through high school and very special to me.
Hence, I missed Mother’s Day with my kids. They made up for it by spending time with my MIL on Sunday and that was special for all.
So, we planned on having a delayed Mother’s Day for me last night – and it was just lovely! First, we went out to get some real Texas BBQ from my favorite BBQ joint (if the furniture and accessories are full of dust and reek of burnt wood, you know you have a true BBQ joint). Then, when we returned home, I got to open gifts that the kids had made or purchased.
Here I am with my gifts – DD#2 bought me a NASA pen with my name on it, DD#3 made me a fabric rag wreath in the shape of a heart, DS made me a de-stress neck helper and that hubby of mine finally bought me some chaps!
I must say that all of the kids were very thoughtful in their gifts. First, our son-man knows that my kitchen is decorated in dairy cattle, so this is the bag that he drew on with my gift inside – I couldn’t get a pix of the words at the top of the bag (staples covered it) but it said, “Happy Moother’s Day”. What a kid!
DD#2 went to Houston on a band trip while I was away, and they got to go to NASA before they returned home. She found this “outer space” pen for me, and it even had my name on it!
Finally, my husband and I have had this running joke for years. Back in our early marriage, he would tease me that he wanted a French maid – or at the least, wanted ME to wear a French maid costume/uniform when I was a mere housewife. HA, fat chance of that happening! But, now, he is my house-husband and I’ve begged him for years to get some chaps. Hey! What’s good for the goose is good for the gander!!! I was tickled pink that he found this card for me cause I finally got me some chaps:
It’s not the same as the real thing, but it’ll have to do. 🙂
