I *love* making log cabin quilt blocks and quilts. No matter how ‘advanced’ my quilting capabilities are, I never outgrow my love of creating a log cabin quilt. I even made my wedding quilt a log cabin quilt!
These blocks are so versatile that they can encompass any type of quilt genre – from the very traditional to the modern, and everything in-between. It’s a quilter’s delight!

Sew your blocks together into rows and then sew your rows to each other to create your quilt top. Make a quilt sandwich with your completed quilt top, batting & backing then quilt as desired. Finally, cut enough 2 1/2″ x WOF strips to sew together to bind your quilt.
Placement of your completed blocks is at your discretion. Below are four examples that may give you guidance:

Now that you have the basics of sewing your block together, follow the same procedures to sew the rest of the block together:

Now sew the Blue #1 to the bottom of your Red/White/White partial block:
Follow this with the Blue #1 sewn on the left side of the partial block:
This block is very simple to sew together. No triangles, no curves—extremely beginner-friendly but is also such a wonderful traditional block for the more advanced quilter.
Begin by sewing the shortest White strip to the Red square 5 1/2″ center on all of your blocks, then press outwards:
Then follow this by by sewing the second (longer) White strip to the right side of the Red/White part you just sewed together:
