Since the manly man (and his siblings) were sick last week on his birthday, we had to hold off on the celebration until this weekend. I think it was worth the wait! We played “Pin the Pirate on the Treasure” first, opened gifts and then ate chocolate cake with blue icing.
As we were cleaning up the present mess to move onto the cake mess (yes, this mom’s life rotates around messes), the little man hugged me and said, “Mom, this is the BEST birthday EVER!”
He says that every year, and for nearly every holiday…but, it’s good to hear that we’re still able to impress him with the passing of time.
Later in the day, we moved into “Relay for Life” mode. My MIL is a breast cancer survivor and is the team captain for a little Relay for Life group sponsored by her local church. We didn’t have to do much, personally, but we were asked to come to the high school stadium to participate in the opening ceremonies for the event, and to walk the track with the survivors and their caregivers. I don’t know that our own family really qualifies as caregivers, since we were 1500 miles away when my MIL was enduring her treatments (whereas, my SIL really was more of a caregiver as she lives close and went with my MIL on her chemo days) … but, we appeased everyone nonetheless.
