Graduation and Eagle Scout Quilt
I’ve spoke before about the two friends that my husband has that he’s known since they were in Boy Scouts together in Jr. High school. I find it hilarious that DH is older than the other two, yet he has the youngest kids. Sam has two daughters who are already grown up and out of the house, one married and one finishing her degree and getting married in a couple of years. David has a son who is a senior in the Corp at a popular Texas college that likes maroon and white. His younger son graduated from high school last weekend and is heading to that popular Texas college this fall.
We went to the graduation party for David’s youngest son on Sunday, and I hadn’t even prepared a gift for him <shame>! I knew I had to make him a quilt because I’d made his older brother one, but I hadn’t taken the time to make it. So, I sent the hubster and kids off to church and got busy.
I ended up with a quilt top that David’s son loved. It’s very basic (he is a guy!), but it says a lot by way of his accomplishments this year. Not only did he graduate from high school, but he also earned his Eagle Scout rank. I wanted to encompass both achievements (kill two birds with one stone …. errrr, gift), so I made the quilt blocks basic guy colors and I made the raw-edge applique name and year out of official Boy Scout fabric. My husband loved it, and so did the graduate/Eagle Scout!
