Quilted Kitchen: Pigs in a Blanket Quilt Block & Pigs in a Blanket Recipe — 19 Comments

  1. I went to quilttherapy.com to get the free pattern, did a search for pigs in a blanket pattern, and got the message that nothing was found. What now?

  2. Deborah: The free pattern is written on this very page you left your comment on. The image of the quilt block is the first thing in the blog post, this is what your quilt block should look like once you finish it. The cutting instructions are next and are listed in bullet format. Finally, you’ll find the diagram for putting your quilt block together. The entire quilt block is made up of half-square triangles. When you cut out your Salmon blocks, you are instructed to draw the diagonal line on the back side of each of them. Then you put a Salmon square together with a White square, right sides together, and sew 1/4 on EACH side of the line you drew. Finally, you cut the squares apart ON the line you drew. Once pressed toward the Salmon (always press toward the darker fabric, if possible) fabrics, you will have two half-square triangles. Repeat this same process for all of the squares you cut out for the quilt block. Then sew your half-square triangles together so you end up with the Pigs in a Blanket Quilt Block!

  3. Easy please!!! Love, love, love this simple quilt block. My 8 year old niece is making on as her 4-H project this year. Thank you so much for the simple instructions that she can follow with minimal help from me. I just have to supervise…lol.

  4. I am in search of a 3′ by 3′ wooden barn quilt pattern. No success. Thx in advance.

  5. Connie: I’m sorry, you won’t find one here, either. All of my patterns are 12″ square quilt blocks. Use my contact form on my website & let’s talk further.

  6. I love this pattern. Where does the name Pigs in a Blanket come from. I think it looks like an amazing star.

  7. I would love to use the pattern to make a quilt. Can you tell me how material to purchase to make a quilt that would be about 70×90 inches. Thank you.

  8. Hi Jennifer! You can’t make a 70″ x 90″ quilt out of 12″ quilt blocks. But if you wanted to make a 72″ x 84″ quilt, you’d need 4 1/8 yards of both the White fabric & the Salmon fabric. If you wanted to make a 72″ x 96″ quilt, you’d need 4 5/8 yards of both the White fabric & the Salmon colored one. That doesn’t take into effect any sashing or borders on either sized quilt.

  9. I want to use this pattern for an 8” block. What size squares do I need to start with for the Half squares?

  10. Hi Alberta! You can use the same sizes as I wrote on the pattern. Then just cut them down to the size that you need for an 8″ quilt block. It’s as simple as that! Plus it’ll give you an almost perfect sized HST for your quilt blocks!

  11. How much yardage and how many 12″ blocks will I need for a queen sized quilt from the Pigs In a Blanket pattern and also for the Christmas Star 31 Quilt Block>

  12. Hi Sandy! I’m not set up to configure the yardage of any of my quilt blocks. Please use my contact form & tell me exactly which Christmas Star you’d like the fabric yardage for. There’s no #31 listed. However, if you’ll be patient with me, I’ll try to get back to you this coming weekend. And I’ll email you the info you’re seeking.

  13. Hi Brenda! All of my quilt blocks are finished at 12″ square. It says so just below the name of the quilt block on each blog post.
