For Free or Not for Free? That is the Question! — 3 Comments

  1. Well written. It should be up to you if you want to give some thing away or not, or to sell it. I could be doing lots of paintings and give them away, but I don’t think any one would care if I did that. Do what ever you feel is right to do with your patterns.. 🙂

  2. Well said, indeed! Thank you for your patterns and ideas! I came across your site searching for patterns for a block lottery we have in our local quilt guild which requires I locate free patterns – no budget. I read your post with great interest. I surely appreciate what you offer. So many patterns on the market today use an age old basis and call it their own by adding yardage and color suggestions. The shop owner, who has overstepped her boundary by trying to put you down, is sadly mistaken. I am in business – completely different market than quilting – but business is business and our company must come up with something unique to offer to the market so customers want to purchase the product. Our industry has many free “patterns” out there and they are necessary to keep people involved in the hobby. You are promoting the very hobby the shopowner is making her living. Kudos to you!!!
