Have a Heart

I used to be able to crochet.  Well, I can still crochet but because of my skin allergies, the yarn or thread has to be washed before I can use it or my hands & fingers will blister.  Have you ever pre-washed yarn or thread?  Even in a lingerie bag?  What a tangled up nightmare!  Certainly takes the fun out of my non-quilt talents!

While cruising up and down the aisles at our local craft store, I found these beautiful small, pre-made hearts at an extremely affordable cost.  I have mostly used them in cards to people who lose a loved one or just to say “you have my heart.”  I have quite a stash of them and purchase a few more each time I go into that craft store.  They are just perfect examples of a tangible object that reminds all of us that a heart is perfect as long as it is a heart full of love.

You may have seen this Mini Quilted Lovie here I made using one of these crocheted hearts.  They would also make a great applique for a special quilt!

You never know what may be lurking in your craft shops and stores if you don’t take the time to look up and down each aisle (in my case, while looking for something else entirely!).

    2014 Charity Quilting Continues

I got a little ahead of myself with my charity quilting this month in one of my chosen categories, right on target with another category and am praying I can get the third category caught up before the end of April!  What really happened is that I had cut out the fabrics for both a Quilted Lovie and a LWR quilt and they were cluttering my mind when I went into my sewing room.  The only way I figured I could remedy this was to put together and finish the two projects so my sewing room wasn’t AS cluttered with unfinished projects…making room on my sewing and cutting tables for other projects that needed to be completed.

As you will recall, I vowed to make one Lutheran World Relief (LWR) quilt, one Quilted Lovie and one Military Veteran’s Quilt each month.  You can see my previous LWR quilts here.  You can see the February and March Quilted Lovies here.

      Quilted Lovies!

Have no fear, my Quilted Lovies are HERE!

I made a vow, at the beginning of February 2014, that I would make three charity quilt projects a month.  One will be a quilt for my church’s Lutheran World Relief ongoing quilt donations, one will be for Military Veteran’s and one will be a Quilted Lovie.  Thus far, February is in the bag and I am working on fitting my March charity quilt projects into my schedule.

The two images below are the results of my February and March Quilted Lovie goal:

        Grungy Quilted Lovie

To go along with my post yesterday, I have completed a Military Veteran’s (charity) quilt for February as well as the LWR quilt.  Although I am just a bit behind, I also put together a Quilted Lovie top this evening!  Will get it ready to quilt in the next couple of days.  LOVE it!
